What do you guys recommend? I have one coming with some titan milds which from my research seem to be too, well, mild.

I'm considering either the mongoose sampler from tryablade.com or just a 5 pack of feather pros. I've seen some good stuff about the kai captain standards but can't find them in a 5 pack anywhere.

Lastly where do you guys recommend buying these from?

Only blades I didn't like where the Kai Milds and the Feather Super Pros (too much exposure for my taste).   Love the regular Kai Captain Standards (where I'd start ) and the Kai Sharps.  (Kai's blades are slightly smoother than Feather's options imo).

Would recommend buying a couple of each of the blades that interest you from Jason at tryablade. By the way, he will sell you a pack of the standard Kais, just need to email him (contact form on his website ) - what I did when I stocked up.

I would order a couple of each blade that your interested in trying from tryablade.  I got good shaves from each of the blades but really could not tell the difference in the guarded blades so I could not justify the higher expense.  In the beginning I could not use the Feather Super Pro blades but now they have become my favorite.

Feather Super for me—all the way! I've even shimmed the head and blade to get a scary close, but oh so satisfying shave results.

I shimmed it with the Feather Pro but never the Feather Super.  I didn't even think of that as I thought the pins on my Batch 2 would be to short to shim a Super.

Thanks for all the input guys. I ended up going with everybodies suggestion and placed an order at tryablade. It consisted of
(2x) kai standard
(2x) Kai sharp
(2x) Feather professional

I actually did this before entasis posted and Clint posted again. Really wishing I had thrown 2 feather supers in there but I'm sure these will be a good start.  I'll save the shimming and blood shed for at least another month or 2

Kai milds were bad for me from the start and remained bad when I revisited them. They are now gone from my den.

Feather Super Pros were too aggressive for me initially. However, when I revisited them later I found them quite enjoyable and amazingly efficient.

Feather Pros are my workhorse blade. They aren't as aggressive as their Super cousins but still quite efficient. They've never harmed me in the Mongoose and they are my go-to for a no fuss automatic BBS 2 pass + touch up shave.

I made my shims out of two Feather Pros: one for under the blade, the other at the back of the head so that gap remains consistent. You'll have to do some grinding, and the rear blade requires a half-moon cutout to go around the threaded cap post. My Mongoose is a B2, yet I have no issues with the double-loaded blades slipping off the alignment tabs.

Thanks for the tip.  I bet that does give a spooky close shave.   Biggrin   When I shimmed the regular Feather Pro I used just one shim under the blade next to the base plate.

You're welcome. It's about as close as you'll get to actual straight razor shaving that I've found to date.

E, can you use the Super straight into the Mongoose without any type of alterations?  Thanks!

Tryablade has sample on his website.  If you want a whole pack of the Kai Standards (think he has the guards as well) you can email Jason and he will sell them to you.  Will shoot you a PM with his email address.

I tried the mongoose today for the first time, I'm impressed. The comfort of the shave was head and heels above any DE I've used, impressively smooth. I went with the kai mild, which handled itself quite competantly everywhere except my chin. The chin took a touch of extra effort but nothing serious. I'm looking forward to trying the other blades but I'm fairly confident this has put a temporary hold on my RAD

David, thanks for the PM. I see sources for the milds (which I am starting with on my new B3 Goose)'and the sharpblades, so I will try Jason on the guards and the standards. Might as well get a supply of them all while I am at it!

Your welcome!  I'd recommend giving the Standards a try before you order any of the Guards, as I believe the Guards are just Milds with a guard added.

Reason being as I thought the Kai Milds aren't a very good blade (and the Standards are my blade of choice).  YMMV of course, but I personally would recommend the Feather ProGuards over the Kai Guards.
