No pun attended but only way to acquire other limited stuff is to leave the door wide open rather then naming a few items and people over look the post. This is how I acquire some hard to get items. Thanks anyway.

Plus you can trade your $100 razor for a $300 item and no one is ever the wiser.  Dodgy

Nice thinking !

I hope that's not what's being done and also hope the mods set a new rule that "make me an offer" listings are NOT allowed.

They are no good for the site.

Combined with your signature (love radiohead!) this your post is even more poignant.

  1. The Shave Nook's selling & trading section is here for members to buy / sell and trade with each other
This site is not meant for members to pick up items at bargain prices and turn around and resell on another site (forum, storefront or auction house) at a profit.
Members who sell here realize that they are selling for less than they can get elsewhere, but choose to do so as a benefit to our membership. Profiting at their expense is not allowed.

It is expected that members exercise good judgment in terms of behavior, as not to abuse the intent of our BST here at TSN. Blatant profiteering is frowned upon, and is best done elsewhere.

How is this profiting. I just didn't say what I'm willing to trade there's nothing stating in the rules you need to say what you want it's just make me an offer?

You know another way to acquire limited stuff? By being kind, selfless and considerate, thereby gaining respect and making friends on the forums. At least that's how I did it.

I mean, using my method, you end up with all these pesky friends that you have to talk to all the time, but at least people don't think that the only reason you're here is to "acquire limited stuff."

+1.

It's just a trade and as long as it not being made public what is traded, wouldn't it be a private matter for each person to determine what they think their items are worth?    Unless our rules prohibit trades where we leave it open for offers without mentioning exactly what we might specifically want.

It's just a trade and as long as it not being made public what is traded, it is a private matter.    As some are keen point out and be right, we are policed to ensure we dont sell to others at exorbitant and non-gentlemanly prices.  I am guessing the fur got ruffled b/c of the simple error of making comments about making a huge profit on a trade.  Had those words not been written, I doubt anything would have been brought up.

At least someone agrees

I agree.  Those words of intent of profit ruffled feathers.

Maybe the wrong place to do this but I want to give some some praise to the mods and proprietors of the site and of the BST forum.  Thank you!  imho it takes a lot of work- work without profiteering- on the part of a few to make it available and keep it running effectively- "policing it" not withstanding.  All for us to have a space to share this common interest.
In order to continue to have this free priviledge it seems more than reasonable to stay well within the bounds of the rules.   If we want to leverage up there is always the Bay.

Listen, friend, I doubt you have nefarious intentions. You like nice shaving gear. We all do. We joined a shaving forum on the Internet because we all like nice shaving gear.

But this forum wasn't founded as a marketplace. If you want to make profit, and work your way up to more expensive gear, then go to eBay. That place is full of people buying and selling, and I promise you, you won't make a single friend there. You can sell your unobtainium to the highest bidder, and use that money to buy more unobtanium. If you use patience and good judgement, you can easily "work your way up" to getting some really nice stuff, through a series of purchases and sales.

Now, I know what you're thinking. It's so much easier on a site like this one. Well, there's a reason for that. It's because, generally, people here are friends with one another. If your friend came up to you and said "Hey, fgeil07, I noticed that you're not using that widget over there. I'd like to buy it. How much would you sell it for?" you probably wouldn't say to him "How much you got?" because that's kind of a jerky thing to do to your friend. Yet that's exactly what you're doing here.

Members of this forum are a loose bunch of friends, and it's fantastic if I have something that I'm not using, and I offer to pass it along to one of my friends. By profiteering (and yes, trying to get a $300 razor in trade for a $100 razor is profiteering, even if no money changes hands) you are taking advantage of that friendship. That person could sell that $300 razor on eBay, but instead, chooses to trade with you because you're a friend.

Here is some unsolicited advice: if you are getting into the wet shaving hobby to try to maximize the quality of stuff you have, while spending as little money as possible, don't. Get your broker's license and trade stocks on Wall Street. You can make a lot more money, and people expect you to screw them over. Wet shaving is supposed to be fun, don't ruin it by trying to make a few extra dollars by profiteering.

What a bunch of women. Not once did I say I'm looking to get a 300 razor for 100. First off just because something has a price tag doesn't mean that is worth that much to someone. I've traded a $400 brush for two full bottles of Italian citrus because the Aftershave (no longer made) to me was worth it so if your not interested in the razor then move on no hard feelings. Geez
