I know its subjective but I am wanting to order a custom shavemac 2 band with a 28mm knot. I like no scritch and no floppiness. on the site when i click on 28mm knot it auto fills 64mm hair length, thats seems like quite a bit i see that a thater bulb and fan 28mm is at 55mm hair length. anyone with experience please help me out. Im not sure whether I'm gonna get fan or bulb so if you could please put selections for both

I like the fan knot better in that hair personally.  Go a little less than 2:1 IMO as I really liked my 25x47 (the only one I still have) better than my 25x50.  I'd recommend a 28x52-3.  Good luck!

the lowest you can select with a 28mm knot is 56mm

Select the lower loft before selecting the knot diameter.  Or you could always get in touch with Mr. Vey.  He made the one I held on to.  Really great brush.  It's the briar Simpson AS3M-style on the right.[Image: d4GUWfD.png]

You can choose any loft you want. Try again and start with the loft before the knot.

I agree that you should go a little less than 1:2 (if you face lather). I have a 25/48 fan that I really love.

I ordered the 28x50 Fan which arrived measuring 51mm in loft. My preference is good backbone and this suits me just fine. Anything over 52 is going to be lacking, IMO.

Yeah it's 25x47.  Ordered at 46 but the difference may be to me using an app on my phone to measure everything... Facepalm  It's a great knot.  I've never had one bigger than 25mm so I think I would listen to David's advice on the loft for a brush at 28mm.  Beautiful brush BTW sir.

i do both bowl and face lathering, at 50mm does it have and scritch? when you say anymore would be lacking do you think 54ish would be floppy?

This 2-Band Silvertip has zero scritch in 28x50(51) Fan. Just a nice gentle scrub. At 54mm, I would say, yes, it'll be too floppy in Fan.

I would mostly agree with David in saying the Fan 28x54mm might be a bit floppy, but, floppy isn't a term I would use to describe this new hair. It is extremely resilient and strong, but you may want to consider the maximum loft to be at 52-53mm with the 28mm knot. I have a Fan at 28x52mm and it has very good backbone. Not as much as I am accustomed to, but it doesn't even come close to being described as floppy. If you want more backbone, you can always get a custom handle made with a knot hole of 28mm which will constrict the knot and provide it with more backbone.
By the way, this new hair has ZERO scritch. You'll just find lovely soft scrub. The tips are almost 'gel-like', in my opinion.
Good luck.

Soft but not floppy. Nice addition to the den since I have several two bands with lots of backbone.
This one is a beast....26x52.

Here is a 26x52 D-01 2 Band bulb. Tips are soft. But, very firm backbone. A normal 2 band in that setup would be pefect. Dense, nice backbone, but not scrubby.

I've used my 30x50 custom two band around 5-6 times and I honestly feel it's lacking backbone. I don't think there's a whole lot you can do as far as height vs loft ratio with this hair if you are really into some scrub. For a point of reference the Chubby 3 manchurian pictured on the right is my go to brush, so you know I like them scrubby. Just my $.02

Joe, compared to your Chubby 3, there is no doubt that the new Shavemac Silvertip won't have as much backbone, but I bet many who have never tried the Manchurian hair wouldn't think so. Also, if you want scrub, you'll never find it with this hair as it is too soft, in my opinion. It is very similar to my M&F 3XL Heritage (31x52mm) and there is no scrub, whatsoever, as the tips are 'gel-like'.  Smile

I pulled the trigger, calling it a birthday present to myself to justify the purchase of another want.  I went with the IMI 173 handle with Deuce engraved on the bottom with a 28mm knot with a 50mm loft.  Thanks all for the help!
