Ikon has a variety of razors with a range of aggressiveness from mild to super. I have only heard about their DLC coating having issues, especially their DLC stainless steel slant. The other issue I experienced was with the blade alignment being wonky on their non-DLC stainless steel slant. So in short I would stay away from their DLC coated razors and their stainless steel slants; Other than that they are all excellent razors. Their OC and SB razors are superb and very well received by many.

Good Luck.

Interesting, I never had any problems with the DLC coating on my Slant, and I use it regularly.  Have you experienced this yourself?

I have personally not experienced the plating issues on the DLC slant but have seen a few on the forums/bst that showed the plating beginning to flake.
I do have their OC, SB and OSS base plates and like them.

I have seen some of those, but I blame those on operator error.  If you take care of it, it will last for a long time.

The old plating, prior to DLC, that one in my opinion it was really bad.

I just got the dlc slant. To be honest it feels more like teflon than dlc. For methough I could care less if the plating does chip if it gets too bad I'll strip it down the the stainless steel. After all it is stainless steel, I'll just remove the blade and dry after each shave if it comes to that.

All of the ikon series slants you have to "pay attention" and adjust at times for blade alignment, doesn't matter if it's dlc or stainless. The shavecraft series doesn't seem to have this issue

I have a matte finish OC, standard, and dlc standard base plate and enjoy every one of them. The dlc standard is  3-4 months old, finish is still perfect.

The OC is my favorite of the bunch

I have the Ikon DLC SB and OC. No problems whatsoever with the DLC coating. Solid razors too- using the OC this week in fact.

Shavecraft 101 is a great razor, provided you are OK with mild razors.  If you prefer an aggressive razor, you probably won't like the 101.

I have one, and I think it's a really good razor.

I have a DLC that does have some chipping/flaking to it, but nothing that has yet disturbed me.  At some point, I'll decide to dress it up and recoat it anyway.

In general I wouldn't worry much about Ikon's quality.  A number of the "issues" with Ikon started in a place that has other "issues" with Greg.  Mostly, that are not his fault. In observance of the forum rules, I won't push any further than that.  I'd simply suggest that when talking about Ikon, you take some of the churn around them with a grain of salt and recognize that they are a very successful company with many, many, satisfied customers.

Agreed. He makes a good product . As good as any in my opinion. I'm not gonna get into politics or the man personally. I believe the issues with ikon are just that personal or how he conducts himself or his business. His business, his brand ,he can run it how he likes and act however he wants. It's non of my business. I'm only worried about the man's products and IMO they are fair as far as price goes for materials used, fit and finish is perfect.
