Mitchell's Wool Fat tends to crack like a desert. Can someone give a chemical/scientific explanation for it? By the way, I still love it.

It's just dried out. Every puck I have used has done that if you don't use it almost daily. Just add a little water to the puck and let it sit over night. Will absorb, expand, and close the cracks. Also makes it even easier to lather next day!

Visit Yorkshire and find a pub called the Greenman. The proprietor will tell your fortune with the  residual froth of your beer. Give his wife a pre decimal Shilling and she will do the same with your MWF puck.
Now, if you like a well ordered Copernican universe use the french assmilk soap. I let mine dry and it cracks in very precise hexagonal units like columnar basalt.

Love it, too.

here´s your explanation: Taking up water it swells, and when it drys out, it shrinks. Thus the cracks. Hope that clears it some up... Smile

It's the heartbeat of the universe. Hold the ceramic container to your ear as with a seashell on the beach. You will hear the Yorkshire countryside.

Reasonable enough. Yes, it makes sense.

I usually play Gregorian or Buddhist chants predawn. I've found this one helps in my shaving meditation after getting a cuppa tea down.

I was a student with some Tibetan lamas WAAAY back before his holiness became a celebrity. The older ones were terribly homesick and I drove 3 with a 4th interpreter up into the winter Sierras when California had snow. I had a 66 Chrysler 300 with a few performance enhancements- a superb touring car. On the return trip we drove through Pearblossom. One monk saw a sign for the  Catholic Priory and became very excited. It made no sense, but I turned around and drove to it.  he leaps out and begins walking to the chapel. This man had severely crippled wrists courtesy of the communist Chinese
shackling him suspended from a wall. I saw a catholic brother step out and make eye contact. He was Chinese and even from a distance his arms moved unnaturally. These two men ran into each other's arms crying. They had never met, different languages and traditions yet bound by being bound. Our hosts held a special mass; Kyrie Eliasons mixed with Om Mane Padme Humes, beeswax candles and incense.  I'm
humbled, in wonder that watching Lost Horizons at 1A.M. when 5 years old could lead to this.
Shaving a weird hobby? Make it a meditation to face 'that stuff' outside the door.

I fear I've taken this thread  into realms best left alone or to wiser men. Pyewacket just woke up, took a few cautionary steps toward the bathroom/shave den and began growling. I walked far enough to feel a vibration  and in the mirror my stick of Le savon Des Volcans standing UPRIGHT. Pye and I have fled, fearfull of similar results.

The addition of sodium silicate in the ingredients might aid in the cracking. We use this in pottery to be applied, dried and stretched as it makes very pronounced splitting effects.
