When I met with Laurence and Mathieu the other day, one of the topics we discussed was a Special Edition Shaving Soap. They brought several scents to the shop and I decided upon Tempete which roughly translates to stormy sea.

What does Tempete smell like you ask? Damn...I hate those questions. It is very hard to describe but it is definitely French -subtle and complex at the same time. It has notes of Rosemary, Lavender and Cayenne Pepper that work like a symphony to conjure up images of the sea, the wind and fine paper. SdM does not use essential oils for their cosmetics as they explained too many people have sensitivities and essential oils can actually be dangerous in some situations. Instead, they use home-made aromatic extracts of plants that are extremely gentle on the skin.

The Tempete soap will be the 30% Donkey Milk formula and it will come in an ash wood bowl (sourced from ash trees in the region). The bowl will have a luffa in the bottom as well as a hole in the bottom to make sure that the soap dries completely between uses. This will help ensure a long shelf life once opened.

Below is a prototype. The actual bowl will be slightly darker due to a water proofing treatment.

Very interesting how she makes her own scents. I definitely want to try one of her products now. Thank you for sharing. I was not even familiar with her company before.

I've felt the oddest deja vu since my puck came by post. Pyewacket decided to hide HIS brush behind my stack of books, and in so doing knocked one onto the floor. SIGH, I walk over, pick  up WHEN FRENCH WOMEN COOK by MADELEINE KAMMAN. Ces't ca! Je
suis tres content.
