Just a simple question: Which soap provides the most protection from the blade for you? I'd say this quality along with post shave feel are the two most important factors in picking a shaving soap for me. Currently my top pick is Cold River Soap Works followed by the Latha line of Barrister and Mann. I'd like to get another quality option in the mix so let's hear your top picks!

When we shave the blade not only removes whiskers but skin cells. If they are old or damaged, good; new and we look like a cheap pair of corrected leather shoes that will not take a shine. The various palm, coconut, shea butter, rapeseed  all have soothing shave and post shave qualities. Tallow and Lanolin are very soothing as they come from fellow mammals. But one soap has LIPIDS  most similar to those in our skin- DONKEY MILK. There are lovely soaps in all forms. Our two available milk soaps should be de riguer' if our whole grain face is over corrected.

There are PLENTY of worthy options here. But, Coate's creams and Antica Barbieria Colla crema immediately jump to mind. Would be very very difficult to match them, IMO.
Coate's creams can be had for very cheap (even though they were expensive when they were produced, go figure!) and there are six scents to choose from. Though they are discontinued they are still available.

Cold River Soap Works for me. Cushion, slickness and the universally applauded post shave is off the charts good.

I vote for Mystic Waters as well.
Joe, if you're feeling worn out from loading, try blooming the soap for 5 minutes before loading. I can load enough soap for a 3 pass shave plus touch ups with my brushes in about 20-30 seconds after it has bloomed.
