Hello, not sure if anyone can answer this, but can you shim or mod a DE razor to make it less aggressive?

There are several threads on shimming here on the Nook, discussing the how and why. Common for all of them is that shimming makes the razor more aggressive, not less, since what you're doing is increasing the blade gap.

One may think that placing the shim over, as opposed to under, the blade would have the opposite effect - however I think that doing so would decrease the blade angle (making for a flatter blade) which also contributes to razor aggressiveness.

In short, I can't see how a shim could make a razor less aggressive. Using a milder blade on the other hand... Smile

Thanks for the reply, i have an Ikon tech and 2011 Muhle R41 and both are too aggressive to get a smooth shave, no matter how mild a blade i put in.

If they don't work for you then they don't work. Not a big deal. Either put them away for a few months and revisit them or just put the up for sale or swap on BST.

You won't have a problem getting rid of either of those. I was looking for a 2011 R41 for quite some time as have many others. Not sure I need one anymore now that I have the Shavecraft tech.

Your own UK made Edwin Jaggers are mild razors and reasonably priced.
