I feel I'm closing in on getting the Badgers I seek for and 'need' in my collection to call a well rounded badger brush collection.

I face lather 120% of the time and super lather 8/10 shaves, give or take

I like backbone in my badgers, especially because I superlather by smearing the cream onto my skin, then swirling the brush in the soap. For that I need a brush with backbone to massage through the initial soap lather and down to the cream layer on my skin.

A too soft brush with lack of backbone will not work efficiently for this.

I currently have 25-28 badgers, most with backbone. 8-10 are 3-band Silvertips, the rest are 2-band badgers.

My collection consist of 7-8 Simpsons, 7-8 Shavemacs, 4 M&F's, 3 Thäters and 4 Vie longs.

How about you ?

I don't super lather enough, thanks for the tip.
I am a face latherer and enjoy backbone and have these badgers:
2 Wee Scots (needs more backbone but a great brush)
Case 1 in pure (great backbone)
Case 1 in best (not bad)
Shavemac (soft as heck, just not a lot of backbone)
Doug Korn in pure (great backbone)
Chubby 2 in best (not so sure I like this brush but it is nice for bowl lathering - I am looking to sell/trade)

A great face-lathering synthetic with some backbone: Muhle 39k257

I have 3 Badgers.

  Whipped Dog 24mm

   New Forest Tubby 1

   Simsons Berkeley 46

They all work well, but the Tubby seems to work better on tallow and harder soaps.

I already have my purrrfect badger brush collection, 1 Muhle Retro, 1 SOC 2 band and 1 Simpsons Manchurian. Just enough variety for a guy who face lathers 200% of the time to never want to buy another badger brush. Sorry, don't need uber lathers to get a good shave so I don't do them.

Okay, Bob.

Sorry that you don't like Überlathers, I have never tried an Überlather, so can't comment on that one  Wink

What I do is SuperLather, not Überlather - you should try it. Can make an ordinary soap and an ordinary cream mix together and create an extraoridnary great lather.

BTW I don't say anything about not getting a good shave with just a soap or a cream, you put the words right into my mouth  Rolleyes

I just emptied a full pot of Baum-Be cream this week and got nothing but great shaves from it.
I would just have gotten even better shaves if I had superlathered the great cream with a great soap.

So far in my wet shaving journey, I have never experienced a soap or cream that I could not enhance in quality by superlathering. This is why I superlather.
It just gives ME better results 300% of the time  Wink

Great collection, my friend.

I agree with you, the longer I venture into this journey, the more I know that matters to me.
And brush handles is very important as you have also discovered.

I have found that for instance a M&F 2XL handle is the absolutely smallest handle I can use and still enjoy it - in fact I consider having my 2XL knots put into a couple of Paladin handles.

You're welcome.

I get fine shaves with just a soap or just a cream, but I always feel a nice superlather can enhance just about any shave for me.

I like to say I have experienced most everything shaving has offered ( I have at one time or another owned most all the highly spoke of items new or vintage  ) at times I have owned a dozen brushes or more. I have settled on a nice one for now and will gear up again in time. My ideal collection if I were to purchase them now without speaking of colors or customs would be.

Ch3 in super
Ch3 two band
Ch3 manchurian
3824 SR
M&F 3xl finest

I would be thrilled with those 5. I have owned most of them in the past and in my opinion this is as good as they get.

I have 2 synthetics, 11 2-band, and 8 3-band.  Wayyyyyy too many, but I do love my brushes.  Sorry for the crappy pic!  I'd say the most underrated brush I own is all the way at the bottom left.  Just a plain old regular Finest Badger.  Shavemac's silvertip 2-band is great, but there's something different about the regular Finest.  Kind of a combination of soft like a silvertip with the backbone of a 2-band.

Uber lather is just another word for super lather. I just don't find a need to "enhance" a soap or cream that already does the job well on it's own. Of course everyone is different so whatever floats their boat goes. For me good is enough.

That's not quite correct  Smile

Überlather is a Superlather with added glycerin.
