G'day gents,

I am after an Emir razor like the one in the pictures.

I don't know much about the razor but I really like the design and style of it and would love to add one to my small collection.

I'm looking for one in fairly decent condition so if you have one and would like to sell it please PM me and we can work out a price as I'm not too sure what they are worth.

Thanks.

Also, I believe some of these razors were made with a head that had both open and a closed comb combination as well as either a closed comb head or an open comb head. I am interested in any of those variations.

Cheers.

Can't blame you one bit for wanting one. What a great looking DE and it appears to be very well built.

Thanks for the link, it gives a bit more information on the razor. Apparently they are stamped "Karl Engels Solingen" which is good to know.

It has a very Art Deco style to it which I like and the head seems quite unique. Looks like the Ikon 101 shavecraft could have been influenced by the head design?

Yea, Art Deco style things get me every time. Could not pass up a Gillette Pocket Edition ABC razor caught in the wild for that very reason.

Yeah it's a beautiful razor but for me a display piece only.  It really gives a crappy shave, nicks galore as the blade gap is large and uneven.  The similarly fashioned shavecraft 101 gives a far superior shave.

That is interesting, is the uneven blade gap as it was in original condition or caused by misuse somewhere along the line? What sort of condition is your razor in?
It seems a shame that such an otherwise beautiful razor would be poorly made.

Lando's experience would be unique. This razor and the several like it made in 1930's Germany are outstanding razors. They do not nick or cause any problems at all if they are not damaged. Punktal probably manufactured the largest number of them as the model 101. It indeed is Ikon's inspiration for the Shavecraft 101, which also gives an outstanding shave. These are some of the best Solingen based razors of the 1930's. Maybe only exceeded by the slant head designed during this time period. If you are only looking for the shave try the Ikon. The Emir is very collectible.

Thank you for that information! It is reassuring to read that these razors do indeed shave as good as they look as I would like to use it occasionally if I am fortunate enough to find one. I thought the Ikon 101 shavecraft head looked similar in design but I already have a few daily shavers so I am really after the Emir for its unique Art Deco style.

nudge, I really wish I could help you.   I have never seen one of these Emir razors anywhere.

I have a Shavecraft 101 and I actually acquired the Punktal on which the 101 was based.  It's nowhere near as pretty as the Emir you pictured, and lacks the art deco handle.  Also, it's a rough shaver.

Good luck, though.

I think I will just have to be patient, cast my line around the place and hopefully something will turn up. I have also looked up the Punktal razor and the head appears to be very similar but I think that if I was only after the Emir for the shave I would just buy a Shavecraft 101. That's a bit unfortunate that the Punktal gives a rough shave, though it still looks quite nice.

Thanks for the comment!
