For a few years I've been using shampoo bars, and love them. Gotta say I didn't know they existed until I joined TSN. So this year has seen me plunge into handmade body soaps. What are your favorites and why?

I have been using Good Earth Spa soaps and really like them.  Sandalwood and Dragon's Blood are the great scents.

Mystic Water Goat Milk Soap

We have exceedingly high standards for facial soap/body soap.  We have tried dozens of soaps, not randomly selected, but sought out for their ingredient list. Mystic Water Goat Milk Soap is the best, period.
  1. It cleans well;
  2. It rinses off the skin completely;
  3. It is very mild and skin-friendly;
  4. It smells wonderful, but the fragrance does not overwhelm.

My all time favorite is Pre de Provence. I also have a L'Occitane bar on my sink that I use daily for washing my hands and face but there really isn't much difference between those two brands other than price, PdP is significantly cheaper and thus our go to bar. The performance of PdP and L'Occitane is spectacular. Both have excellent moisturizing properties with Shea Butter among the ingredients, lather beyond belief, and the scent that lasts all the way to the absolute end of the bar, which is quite impressive. Our favorite is the Lavender for scent and because it has some sort of flower seeds or grains throughout the entire bar that help exfoliate the skin. A 250g bar is only $7.99 on Amazon and free Prime shipping. I would like to try Stirling next, and then Soapy Bathman and Soap Commander.

I use this all natural Greek Olive oil soap http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=33548

It can be used as a shampoo bar as well. It is not handmade though or "artisan" but I fail to see how paying 10x more for a soap that is made by one individual's hand will be better or worth it (all other things being equal.)

My only problem with mystic water bar soap is that it doesn't lather much or take an effort making a good leather whilst razorock/SV soap make leather effortlessly and very rich.
It works on face as good as body.

I like quick , fast and a lot lather under the shower. Saponifio verisano /razorock do just that

I haven't used Mystic yet but I would imagine different soaps from them will have different ingredients, and thus different lathering abilities. They have a large selection of soaps so I'm sure they have something for everyone.

My Better Half and myself really like Mike's Natural soaps (as well as his shampoo bars and shaving soaps). My Better Half likes the Orange, Clove & Cinnamon, the Lavender, and the Sweet Pumpkin Spice. My favourite is the Pine & Cedarwood, which is a nice woodsy scent.

Stirling (just about everyone can vouch for them)
Shannon (getting more and more popular)
Wintersong Soap in Sitka, Alaska (takes a little longer for packages but wow)
Green Mountain (nice soap, + a NASA scientist)
Maggards (Maria Arman's creations)
