Hi gents,

I have my fair share of vintage Gillette safety razors and in order to satisfy my RAD, I have decided to learn more about non Gillette vintage razors. The only non Gillette razors I own are the GEM and Ever Ready SE razors, not including my SS modern razors. Looking at some of the other vintage razors and I'm impressed by the design of these razors but am also curious about their performance. The models that interest me are the Darwin, J A Henckels and the Wilkinson 7 day set but I would like to hear more about what other razors you guys enjoy. Pictures are of course welcomed and highly encouraged  Biggrin

Favourite non Gillette DE razors would be the Muhle R41 (2013), Merkur slant and Fatip.

Any Schick Injector. Most GEM and Ever Ready. Only DE I can use is the Feather Popular. The shave on any other DE is awful- tuggy rough and scrapey.

Are you referring to modern or vintage ones?

My apologies for this mistake. Allow me to clarify, I meant vintage razors!

It's not super exotic, but the Schick Krona seems to get a lot of love.

The Darwin is an excellent razor and collectible, meaning it'll cost you your first born... but the good news is is that it shaves just great and you'll look good shaving.. it is a classic!!
I like odd ball razors and one of my favorites is the French Famex... it definitely fits the oddball category but the shave is superb!! One of the best shaving razors I have found..!!

Mulcato slant
Red Ring eclipse

I've tried a couple of others, but these are the only ones that I've found compete with the Gillettes

Oddball does not even begin to describe Scott's collection.

Agree with this assessment. Red Ring is sensational and all 3 types of Mulcuto slants are outstanding.

I recently won a lot of Injectors on eBay and now await their arrival. Excited for them to join my army of vintage DEs and GEM SEs. I'm also looking out for the Mulcuto slants and the Krona (when price is right). That said, I wonder if a Darwin razor will ever pop up  Biggrin

I just got a OC Hoffritz a friend sent me.  I'll post pictures later, it is a beauty, and a great compliment to the Hoff Slant.  I love the silver finished handles.

The Schick Krona is not too bad but I do prefer the Feather Popular.
I never tried any other vintage DE but I tried most of the available SE razors and some are outstanding.
My favorite is a Gem Jr Lather Catcher, before the 1912 models as well as the 1914 "little lather catcher".

There is an entire sub forum here dedicated to them.

Gardette open comb
Eclipse Red Ring
Rotbart flat bottom open comb

I like 1930s razors , these French , English and German razors are in my opinion the equal to most of the Gillettes from that era.
