I recently started shaving with a shavette razor over the past few months..I'm still learning but slowly getting some good shaves.

I was just interested if anyone could tell me if other shavettes shave differently or offer anything different in terms of the shave they give. Do you prefer one shavette over another? I'm currently using a focus shavette razor.

Thanks

Some shavettes expose the blade more than others, but not by a lot. Some also use different mechanics of holding the blade, which can affect the shave.

What it mainly comes down to with shavettes in my experience is the weight and perhaps more importantly the weight balance. The Focus appear to be identical to "The Bengal Shaving Co" one that I have, and while it's good looking and a fine enough shaver I find it to be way too light and plasticky. If you want to try a different one I can recommend Bluebeards Revenge and Parker. They're heavier and built more solid. But that's all personal preference.

And then there are the Feather Artist Club shavettes, which use special blades. I haven't tried one myself, but they're said to be excellent.

Thanks for the useful advice and recommendations..much appreciated!

I have noticed that the blade lifts up when sliding the focus shavette into place. It means I have to push the blade down just before shaving. A bit worrying. It's happend a few times.

I agree as well that the focus is a light and doesn't have much weight.

That's extremely useful, thank you.

I have heard that slicker lather is generally preferable when using a shavette (please correct me if I'm wrong).

As I'm fairly new to shavettes, do you have any specific recommendations on soaps/cream to use specifically for shavettes?

I have been using WSP and Baume be with some good results.

Thanks

I do prefer a somewhat thinner lather when I use a straight or shavette but I don't use a special soap or cream, anything goes here. Most important is a very light touch.
