I am an old retired sailor from the wet side of WA. state who never touched a DE razor in my 73 years..Until a week ago. While going through some stuff while trying to downsize, my wife came across a small pouch containing a razor wrapped in paper towels that had been her fathers. He had died in 1968 and her mom took the blade out and cleaned it and put it away, almost perfect condition. We did not even know we had it because it was in some things my wife got after her mother passed on. So my wife says here give it a shot..No way jose! Well I did some research and found it is a Gillette Adjustable I 1 (1963) and then did some reading on wet shaving and down the rabbit hole I went. A reasonable Van Der Hagen shave kit, some Williams, Van Der Hagen Glycerin and Proraso shaving soap, an assortment of blades from Amazon and I am on my way. I have shaved four times with no nicks and cuts,(I know they are coming) but little patches of missed beard but I am getting better with each shave. I feel like i am joining some secret brotherhood, maybe I will put Burining Man on my bucket list......I think not. That's my storey and i am stinkin' to it.

Good story, welcome to the forums. Your shaves will only get better and better. I know for me I've been doing this about 5 years and think I have a solid technique. Some days I just can't get a good shave though, same routine same gear.
