First Canadian caught my eye in a members SOTD here a few weeks ago, I ordered a tub of the Bay Rum Lime and just received it today.  It has tallow and lanolin in it and when I lathered it up with my Paladin PK-47 I was immediately met with dense, slick lather that was a pleasure to shave with today with my straight.

I would say the scent was a dead ringer for Mystic Waters Bay Rum but with pronounced lime in the opening. Michelle's Bay Rum is my all time favorite and First Canadian is now neck and neck for that place in my scent rankings.

It's an excellent soap, great lather, great post shave feel and excellent slickness with the straight.  For less than $16 shipped for 4oz -- it's one of the better deals I have found.

I would rank it as good as B&M, Bufflehead, LpL and Mystic Water.

I'm going to order his Vetiver and his Peppermint one next.

Their stuff is ridiculous. I ordered the polar vortex and got a free sandalwood with it as a promotion. This stuff explodes off the puck

I am amazed at how good it is --- I was one of the first forum members to review LpL stateside a few years ago and I called that it was a special soap and many have proved that to be true --- this soap gives me that same "wow factor" first impression -- everything from packaging to scent to performance are all first class and top notch.

I am going to go out on a limb here. I just tried 3 different Saponificio Varesino shave soaps which I found to perform very well. The First Canadian tallow based shave soaps provided me with very similar performance with the scents being not as strong as the SV scents.

I wasn't a big fan of the sandalwood scent, in fact I had to trade it away because I was almost repulsed by it, but Damn did I get the slickest shave for 14 bucks ever. I am going to buy his lavender scent and see how that smells

Where do you live. My shipping is more than half the cost of the product.

I don't know the guy who makes these soaps -- but I find it odd that a day after I told him how great his soap is and sent him a link to this thread & wanted him to know that I liked his soap that now there is a $2+ dollar increase on the price of his 4oz soap and a bit of an increase in shipping costs as well.

Albeit, this could have been a planned increase so that Maggards and others who are beginning to sell his product don't feel like folks can get it cheaper directly through him --- but it just feels a bit off to me.

Best of luck to him and he has a great product, but it was a great deal at right at $16 shipped, not sure I feel the same at around $21 shipped --- glad i ordered one yesterday morning for the cheaper price

Ya this seller/maker is little shady with this cost difference. I would think be cheaper to buy direct from him than on a off site. [Image: 355a9c5724104b70d1cfd874fcb37445.jpg][Image: f98c7f84297d91d8db5e2d411f15618e.jpg]

Nothing shady at work here, he's shipping from Canada so prices are higher. Costs us about that much to send stuff to them with USPS

http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm#2949345

Maggard's is cheaper because they ship from inside the US. Are you gonna ask us next why shipping is so high when buying straight from Saponificio Varesino?

let's be clear -- I am not proposing that the seller is being shady --- I just think the price increase may be poorly timed --- UNLESS it was planned, but in that case, do a courtesy, put a note on your page/ site announcing that your prices are about to increase.  Many of our beloved artisans here and on other forums have usually announced when they are needing to increase their prices -- I get it, we all need to pay the bills and not take a loss -- it just struck me funny and I apologize to the members here who got excited due to my original post and shortly thereafter found the prices already increased.

It is still a great soap, with amazing slickness and works really, really well with straight razors for me in particular.  I am sure the owner is a great guy & it's great to see a great option for the Canadian brethren here on TSN.
