Hello gents.
I plan on getting two Shavemac knots for custom brush handles.
Here is my question. In the knot selector when I choose knot diameter and loft, where is the loft measured from? For example I want to get a 28mm two band ST, and I want to set it at 56mm loft. Will that loft measure from the point where the plug ends and the hair starts or the loft is longer and the knot has to be adjusted to the proper loft by the brush maker?

Thanks in advance

Knot will be designed so that loft should be 56mm measured from the top of the handle.  A 28mm knot will probably measure 29-30 at the base.

Stefan, Bernd measures from the base of the knot which will add a 1mm or so to effective knot size. Loft is exposed with a ~15mm depth.

Good luck!

Hypothetical question: Shavemac lists 46mm and 48mm lofts. If one wanted 47mm, which of the two offered should be chosen? Can a 48mm loft be sunk to 47? Or pick either and then leave a note to Bernd under "comments to your order" that 47 is desired?

Your best bet is to discuss it directly with Bernd.  Just explain the exact dimensions of the handle you're trying to refit and your expected end result and he'll point you in the right direction.
Here's a link from Rod Neep which explains some of the knot measurements.  http://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/communit...e.27485%2F
