Curious what everyone has in their den that they consider to be pricey but worth every penny.

Would like to avoid the MdC debate if possible, as that one has been beaten to death.

Here's my list:

Jabonman Rosa Bourbon (incredible rose scent)
Barrister & Mann Fougere Imperiale (Tallow)
Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge

BM definitely for performance. Scent is subjective but I also like the fougeres.

Czech & Speake for the scent, although it's not a Shirley Brody scent.

Jabonman: yes in general, but the rose scent is incredible indeed, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

Barrister & Mann is definitely overpriced unless you really, really must have that particular scent. There are many better performers in the market for less money.

Czech & Speake. Excellent performance and scents. My preference is for Oxford & Cambridge.

The Strope Shoppe - London Morning which I really enjoy.  That is the most expensive soap I own.

Indeed you do. I'd also recommend that you try the aftershave.   I happen to think this is an excellent Fall scent, great on those cool, brisk mornings that will arrive soon.

Keep in mind that underneath the C&S logo is a Valobra puck, which if you buy from Valobra or AoS tallow is half the price. They don't have the very nice No. 88 scent, but I like the AoS sandalwood scent so I'll take that and still get the glorious Valobra performance.

IMHO and based on over a hundred soaps, C&S Oxford and Cambridge is the only high dollar, non-MdC soap that has been worth the price.
SV, ABC, Jabonman were all great soaps, but not worth premium pricing.

My choices in B&M are from sometime back when his prices were less.

Just my views. YMMV

The only soaps that I feel I splurged on and were totally satisfying are my tallow Trumper soaps. I have a NOS tallow Pens EF a well that I hope doesn't disappoint.

MDC didn't do much for me, but the original AdP was nice. Though I don't think I would buy it at normal price.

My most expensive soap would have been Cold River Soaps when it was $25 for 6oz. To me they were worth every penny, now they have changed in price so a tin is quite affordable.

In terms of the big spending soaps I have never had one, they have never really interested me. I would be happy to spend the cash but there are so many good artisans that are cheaper I never get round to it - and are they really any better.

Right. Since everyone is adding to the list, here are my recommendations:
  1. Anything by Meißner Tremonia. "Pricey" is extremely relative with these soaps, because they are extremely efficient. I keep recommending them, because I have been using nothing else for months. They are that good.
  2. Kniže 10. The scent is even better than the performance which is, well, very good but not perfect.
  3. Lorenzo Villoresi. One of the most interesting scents I have ever encountered, and the only case where I was tempted to take a bite from that cake of soap. Performance is good, like Martin de Candre. Nothing more, nothing less. But the Shaving Soap Holder puts every other soap bowl to shame.
Mind you, except for Meißner Tremonia, these soaps are good, but not breathtakingly good. They're interesting, and, as requested, pricey. The scents are highly unusual, very refined, and - in my opinion - worth the price, though.
