Well, I was on the fence due to the cost and the bank made the decision.
No credit card transactions to France. Too much fraud so under no circumstances will they allow a transaction to France,(among other select countries).

I'm sure there aren't any wet shavers at my bank. Sad

I think it's time to acquire another credit card! We'll all keep SWMBO out of that loop. Tongue

Hmm.. do they take PayPal? Granted it's an extra layer to go through, but I've found Paypal very useful when it comes to ordering shaving supplies.

As much as I go round and round with PayPal it's really worthwhile for international payments.

Thanks!

I don't think I could find a paypal option on my recent purchase. They might take it if you email them and ask though. Marie seems like a nice gal. martin-de-candre@orange.fr

Thanks Ray! I tried again and couldn't find the PayPal option.

Hopefully, they still accept it and Marie can send me the address for payment.

I bought some last week and had two cards declined--I was told there are major fraud schemes with overseas cosmetics/cologne/etc.

It was easily solved by a call to my bank telling them that I approved the charges. They lifted the automatic reject.

I got a fraud warning as well, but the payment went through and I got mine just fine.

MdC hasn't gotten back to me yet regarding using PayPal and my bank flat out refuses to allow the transaction.

I ended up using SWMBO's credit card to order and it went through. Unfortunately, she was able to see the cost of "just one freakin' jar of shaving soap...???" Wink

The price we pay......

Luckily, mine will never know... Rolleyes
But seriously, sounds like it's time for a new bank. They're in business to serve your needs, and it's pretty ridiculous that they won't allow a transaction you desire and have authorized.

Quick question (also, first question on this forum)... is MdC really that good? Is it really worth the money? As I'm in the UK getting it would be less of a problem for me.

Well, I think it is. I use virtually no product for a great lather. The stuff is magical, touched by elves or something. If you have hard water you may need more, but I can't imagine anyone having problems lathering this if they actually touch the brush to the soap. I like the scent too.

If you don't like it you'll have no problem selling it.

Welcome to the Nook!
I was PIF'd a sample and finally broke down and bought some (prompted by the 20% off sale). I was not a big fan of the scent at first but have grown to like it fine. You may find other soaps that perform as well for you, but I don't think there is anything better. The lather and skin conditioning properties are exceptional, and, as others have noted, it takes very little product to create a lot of lather, so the cost is actually not as high as it seems because it lasts so long.

I use of two credit cards for purchases in Europe and have found that if I call ahead and let them know about the purchase that it will generally go through just fine. However, both have flagged/blocked purchases through their respective fraud departments when I have not given them advance notice.

As for the question about MdC being that good - Yes! The scent of the soap is such that it will turn some people away. It is a very protective soap that produces a rich lather without a great deal of effort.

It's easily as good as any great soap you've tried. The scent is quickly becoming a favorite (herbal lavender > floral lavender!) I'm guessing since you're also in the EU, shipping would be relatively inexpensive. The soap is worth the $35USD it costs, no question about it.
