Ha! You know what, I can see that! What a cool observation. Makes me appreciate this razor/handle combo even a little more.

Just a curious question because i am unfamiliar with the goose, what is he rubber gasket for?

Also i have a full sized 18x24" "painting" of your avatar in my office at work. Im not sure here it came from, but it was just hanging there one day when i came in.

The rubber gasket actually goes between the razor head and the handle. I have always guessed that it is just there to prevent metal to metal contact when the handle is screwed on.

Haha! I actually have the same poster. I am have been a Seinfeld fan ever since I was young and I love Kramer.

The rubber is meant for shipping only. It keeps the head and base plate from separating or knocking against each other in transit. You're not supposed to use it otherwise. If you want to prevent the metal handle from marking the baseplate, use a #10 nylon flat washer.

Well, there you go! I have learned something new. I appreciate the info, sir! It always made me wonder each time putting it on, but never made a difference for the shave so kept it on.

The difference is that the rubber takes up more threads that can't go in the handle (ever seen a handle strip out at the tip? It's not good.) it may also make it slightly more difficult to change blades.

That makes perfect sense. I appreciate it!

If it makes any difference to a potential buyer, I only have two shaves using this handle with the Mongoose head, so it is still in excellent condition.

I should add, the one benefit of the rubber is that it prevents you from over tightening the handle because the rubber compresses.

The nylon washer I recommended also compresses slightly. In any case, beautiful Mongoose, and good luck with your sale.

Hey Deuce,

Yeah, I would sell it separately for $140 shipped. I will update the original post to reflect this offer.

Thank you!
