Hi guys
I am currently looking at the ATT kronos with R and M plates. At the moment i use a merkur digress (uk version of mergress) and like to do a 2 pass shave wtg + atg with some touch ups on a high setting (5+ then dial down to 3 for the touch ups). I often leave 2 or 3 days between shaves. I have found that milder razors just mean i have to do more passes so more iritation.

I was wanting to hear from other progress/digress users how this would compare to the ATT razors. Like i said i often only shave every 2 or even 3 days but would like the option of shaving more often.

Thanks in advance!

I have both a Mergress and ATT. I think the M plates may be a bit mild for your taste to be honest if you if you enjoy the Digress at 5 would likely disappoint. Unless you just want the M in the backpocket for those sort of days.

May want to go for the R+H plates instead.

Thank you kwsher, thats a great help. How would you rate the m plate on your mergress scale? And also where does the h fit in? Also how else does the shave compare between the att and mergress (eg. Smoothness of shave)?

Hard question. I use the ATT far more than the Mergress; the feel of the ATT is great (I have both an Atlas and Kronos handle but prefer the Atlas). I mainly use the R plate and in fact just ordered a SB R1 as I think the R a great, efficient shaver.

Having said that, I think the Mergress offers an overall smoother shave. The way that the head sets the blade minimizes a lot of the blade chatter and, not that the ATT doesn't, it is just not quite as efficient.

The ATT however is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship and just a pleasure to use.

PS. I think the M plate would be along the lines of 1.5 or so.

The ATT is my go-to DE razor, and I used both the M and R plates extensively.  Both work quite well, but I find that the R has a marginally more aggressive feel, but a much closer shave.   In fact, the ATT with R plate and -- my own preference -- Super Iridium blades sets the standard for a DE shave.   I have the Mergress and have used it extensively, and like it very much.   Still prefer the ATT.

Ok thanks stanley, sounds good that r plate only feels a bit more aggressive yet is a lot more efficient.

PS,  I agree with Kwisher on the aggressiveness scale.  I would rate the M plate at about 1.5 to 2.0 on the Mergress.   The R plate is probably a solid 3, fairly aggressive.

if you are not particularly partial to mild razors, M plates will prove to be too mild.
In fact, I don't like aggressive razors, I just like medium/efficient razors and found M plate to be slightly too inefficient.
3-4 passes with touch up still left me stubbly.  That's after 3-4 passes of very careful strokes with moderate pressure(or more than i would use usually)

go with R1 (or R2 if OC is your thing)

Another suggestion would be to try S1 as well.  I found R1 to be efficient, but not the most comfortable to use.
S1 is smoother and just as efficient, if not more.

my 2 cents.

I used 5 different ATT base plates and the S1 was my favorite.  It's a really nice combination of comfort and efficiency.  The R1 was #2 and the M plates were so inefficient that I gave up on them.
