I have pretty much gone to modern stainless razors, but I still have aeveral Gillettes I use occasionally.

On impulse, I picked up nice metal tipped Krona on eBay last night. It's an early one with a brushed finish and no writing on the doors. I thought it would be fun to compare it to my Super Speeds.

Does any one have any blade recommendations?

Great score. The krona is very underrated in my opinion. May I ask what blades u have on hand. It's a milder razor and to me pairs well with a very sharp blade.

What ever blade works for you will work in that razor. As Skinny stated it's a mild razor so keep that in mind. Great shaver though!

I agree. A fantastic underrated shave with a sharp blade.

If I recall correctly, I've only tried Lab Blues in mine (I'll have to remedy that), but they worked very well.  I imagine my Feathers would work fine as well - it's a really easy razor to use.

Personna Labs. Nearly as sharp as a Feather (far sharper than Astra SP and other lesser blades) and much smoother than a Feather.

Sounds like the consensus is sharper blades. I have Feather, Gillette Silver Blue, as well as Astra, Voskhod, Rapira, and Polsilver SI. Should I start with Feather or GSB, or one of the others?

Astra SP. I have a Krona, and it works well no matter what blade I use. But the Astra SP is the best blade I have used to evaluate a razor. It is my workhorse. I may move to something else later, but 9 times out of 10 when I get a new razor, the Astra SP is the first blade I go for.

I use Astras, Ladas, Bailis, and Feathers with great results.  Any blade that works for you should be fine in the Krona which, to me, is a most under-rated razor.  Unfortunately, the price of the old Kronas is going the way of the Gillette vintages - up, up, up.  I picked up a very nice, clean Krona for $7.00 with shipping a number of years ago.

I got the best DE shaves from a Krona plastic tip and Gillette Swede. I don't know what the modern equivalent would be.

My Krona got here, and it looks perfect! I liked the comment above about Astra SP's. I have never had bad results with them, and it isn't super aggressive, and should give a pretty good introduction to the razor. I will post my impressions shortly. I have too many things to play with, darn it!
