Greetings TSN,

While I shave almost exclusively with SE razors I do have two DEs in my den: a ShaveCraft 101 (SB/OC head) and 102 (slant).  Since these sit unused 99% of the time, I thought I would offer an opportunity for curious TSN members to participate in a pass around/tour in order to try the razors.

General requirements for participation
Active Shave Nook members in "good standing" are welcome to send me a PM regarding participating in the tour. I would suggest active and good standing infers you have been around TSN for at least a couple months and are participating in the community. If you are active on other shaving forums and are new to TSN I will take that into consideration. And if you do not qualify today, but have interest, you may become eligible as the tour unfolds...so please feel free to send me a message and I can add you to the "reserve" list.

Following are the rules I have once again borrowed from our good friend and moderator Texbilly.

Gents, nothing but a bit of common courtesy here, meant to keep the tour fair, fun and safe.

1. Please limit your time with the gear no more than 7 days. This should be enough time for some quality shaves and impressions. Sure, there will be exceptions and if you know ahead of time your schedule will be limited (e.g., vacation, job constraints, travel) please let me know so we can adjust the order and keep the momentum going.

2. The package will contain the an iKon ShaveCraft 101 head, a ShaveCraft 102 head and a Maggard handle.  I am working under the assumption anyone participating will have their own preferred blade, so none will be included.

3. I am shipping the razor clean and sterilized. Please do the same before handing it off to the next member. Soapy hot water, Barbicide and Scrubbing Bubbles are good. Boiling water and bleach are bad and will likely ruin the razor.

4. Wrap carefully and ship the package as your means allow. It will be shipping in a small Priority Mail flat rate box. If this is a hardship, please switch to a clean, generic box and pack securely. The razor and blades are valued at approximately $100, so please consider insuring the package should something happen.

5. Communicate. Please post in this tour thread when you receive the razor and when it ships, and PM me if you have any questions.  I would also ask that when you receive the razor you contact the next on the list to request their mailing information, so that you have it readily available when it is time for the razor to travel on.

6. Post reviews! Please share your impressions, good or bad, with your fellow TSN members.

7. Have fun! [Image: emoji2.png]

I'm saving my pennies for the $1,000 razor/blade subscription since you gents will be burning through a blade per shave.

Michael, you are just an amazingly generous individual, my friend! Thumbup  I am not in, by the way, as I have tried the 101 and, currently, use the 102.

Wow! Those are beautiful razors!! If this gets kicked off, I'd definitely be interested. Always nice to try another new Slant or OC! I own one of the Bakelite Slants Italian Barber was selling a few years back.

I love these tours, Michael! Thank you for thinking of us again.
Both of these would be new types of razor to me, and I'd like this opportunity to broaden my horizons.

Ok so the goods got to me today. Thanks again Michael. First off I will not be reviewing the 101 as I already have one. IMO it is one of the best mild razors out there. Mild yet incredible smooth and efficient. I am also using my own iKon handles for the 102 test as I am wanting to get one and it would end up with one of those handles. So for the first test I put my iKon SE handle on the 102 with a new feather blade and went at it. The SE handle made for an absolute behemoth of a razor. It worked well, but was a bit unweildy with the weight of the head and that long heavy handle. However it was still extremely smooth and efficient. 3 pass BBS with just a couple of nicks. On Friday I will try it again on a bulldog handle. I imagine it will work better in that configuration. If I am correct I am surely sold on the 102. I will be sending it back off on Saturday. I also have a SS iKon slant on the way that I purchased that I will also compare it to later in this thread. Thanks again Michael.

KWell I gave it another run today. Used the bulldog handle and it was much more manageable. I think I will definitely try to find one now for my extra bulldog handle. It is now packed and ready to go back out. Otis has asked that I skip him and I am waiting for a response from 24Fanatic. If I get his address by the morning I can get it out tomorrow. If not it will be Monday. Thanks for the test run Michael.

The package arrived safely here in North Carolina today, and I retrieved it from its postal prison upon arriving home from work. After unwrapping and inspecting the razor heads and handle, I sanitized everything and figured I might as well try out the "Slant" tonight. Loaded it up with an English Wilkinson Sword, whipped up some TOBS Sandalwood, and went to town. The Avon river boat is filled with Wild Country, which was a nice finish to a great shave.

My first impression of the Shavecraft 102 is that it was a good idea to come up with a different spin on the Slant concept, and the razor head is well built, but I really don't see myself dropping any money for one of these. I'll give it a few more runs and see if that initial impression changes or not.

The Maggard handle, on the other hand, is truly impressive. This thing has some heft to it, and I really like the shape and the knurling. The Oak leaf on the bottom end of the handle is a nice touch, as well. [Image: d1fc903491dd8ecb05ce5eca75d5cf0a.jpg]

So I said I would do a review of the iKon slant vs the  102. Well I had my second shave with it last night and my report was going to be that it was not nearly as smooth, efficient or close shaving as the 102. Then I had a DOH moment when cleaning the slant afterwards. I didn't even think about it, but I had the blade completely misaligned. Didn't realize it had so much play. I must say I got a great shave for having the blade misaligned. Lol. I will report back in a day or so after using with the blade properly aligned.
