The iKon OC is pretty close to a long comb. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet the Shavecraft short comb is very close to a New SC.

The NEW is brass, cheap, and widely available.

Reminds me of a Ford commercial - "Drives like a Mercedes."  I do not believe anything can replace a vintage Gillette SS.

For a modern production razor that shaves like a Gillette NEW I would recommend the Parker 24C.

These are beautiful razors and they shave extremely well. The handle is, I believe, plated brass. The shaving head is most likely plated zamak, But there is no reason why this should stop you buying one -- I love my expensive all stainless extravagance razor, but there are zamak razors out there that will certainly out-last the original purchaser if properly maintained.

Anyway, the Parker company makes fine razors and I think they are certainly as good as Merkurs. They don't get the attention they deserve. Mind you, the actual Gillette NEW razors on Delta Echo Razor Works are perfectly gorgeous! A bit expensive, but worth every dime I'll bet.

I'd say that an ATT R style would work, but as pointed out, News are pretty easy to come by.  Not sure I ever saw a Ford ad comparing them selves to  Mercedes?

Avoid the iKons and Merkurs, based on personal interaction with their "customer service"

The Ikon razors are quite aggressive, and very efficient. With the right blades, I have found that it is one of my smoothest shaves

I guess it depends on which model NEW. Have been shaving with the NEW Big Boy Chromium Deluxe and a Wolfman OC lately and I find the shaves fairly similar, smooth and close.

I got today the NEW short comb, re-worked by Delta Echo (thanks @nachum for super fast intl shipping).

It looks amazing and the coating he applies to it makes it an extremely smooth shaver.
