No coffee to me. This is a very dark scent so I would say lots of leather to it. I almost didn't like it at first but then I used it earlier this year and I liked it a lot. I paired it with HTGAM Tombstone. Leviathan is better as a fall winter scent in my opinion. That is why I haven't used it lately.

Maggard's has a new soap that is described as leather and pipe tobacco.  That sounds less "dark" to me.

if you're familiar with maitre perfumier et gantier's santal noble, it's a darker take on that one, imo.

not familiar with that one. i am looking for a strong leather scented soap. not a huge pipe tobacco fan (depends on the type of tobacco scent though) just worried it will be to much coffee.

for me personally, the strongest notes are a charred sandalwood (the smokiness comes forward after a bit, it's genius), leather, musk and coffee - in that order. i love it.

Maggards is selling samples of leviathan soap.

Just from my memory of last year's Leviathan - heavy on the leather, practically no coffee.  I would prefer to balance them out a bit more.  I ordered it again this year but don't have it yet - I am hoping the formula has been tweaked just a tad.

Maggard has samples of it for $2.75. It doesn't sound appealing to me as far as scent but that would be a good way to try it.

This is a hard one because it is so complex, when I first tried Leviathan, I am not going to lie, I thought it smelt like an ash tray. I gave it away to my dad and he swore by it. I picked it up a few months down the line and had a sniff and to my amazement I thought it smelt truely fantastic, I do not know what happened the first time. I would say dark leather is the main note with all the other stuff (Sandalwood, Coffee and Musk) very balanced in the background.

It is a true Fall/Winter great!

From what you have been saying, this soap may be hit or miss for you....you may love it you may hate it. Only one way to find out!

If I remember correctly from last year, Leviathan is a pretty controversial scent. I do recall a lot of people mentioning the animalistic scent. The official scent description does include the term "feral". Personally, I think I'm going to stay away from this one. I never do well with controversial scents.

Leviathan thread? Of course Eric's gonna drop a line Biggrin

I have yet to try it, but I'm stoked. I love the direction Will has taken in the past with "darker" stuff like Roam, Lavanille, and Beaudelaire. Very excited to see what the Leviathan yields.

Generally speaking, I find that Will's scents need to be appreciated from a distance.

When you put your nose right up to the puck...it can be very strong and off-putting. But when you open the lid and leave the soap uncovered in the room and smell from a distance....you find yourself thinking "what is that awesome smell"...

I must be an outlier here, as I found the scent of Leviathan to be rather repulsive.

Same. I was rather excited to get it initially because of all of the hype, but it did not agree with me. The smell reminded me of wet dog. YMMV and and all that

And yet somehow Leviathan beat out Nocturne.  I thought Nocturne was awesome, but it was discontinued in favor of Leviathan.
