I have an old Gillette 4 piece British flat bottom travel tech and want to get it replated. Where do you guys suggest I get it done and should I get it done in rhodium or nickel? Thanks!

I believe our own delta echo does it and from what I've seen of his work he's good.

I just purchased a revamped/replated rose gold 1947 Gillette Fatboy from Razor Emporium.  It arrived today and it's flawless.

Reliable Electroplating in Massachusetts has done some excellent work for me in years past .. they did silver, platinum, gold in addition to nickel for me.   When I used them the prices were about half of the others.   The downside of Reliable was that your razors were away for awhile, which I knew ahead of time and had covered with dozens of others.

I've not used them, but have read some less than fully supportive comments about Razor Emporium that prevented me from doing so.  They may have  been banned at another shaving forum.  So just do a lot of reading before you send your Precious off anywhere, and take all internet recommendations with the gravity due what you have paid for them .. ...  mine included of course.

To the second question, since I don't think a tech came in Rhodium, I'd go with the nickel

I sent my Gillette New to Nick @ Sport Shaving. He did an excellent job for me. The rates are reasonable with a fast turn around time. The head is Rhodium and the Bar Handle is Rose Gold.

You know, I hate it when you guys post photos like that.  I was doing just fine with my Feather AS-D2 and EJ DE89L, but you guys and your stupid gorgeous closeups made me pick up three vintage razors in two weeks.

Stop already.  I'm going to end up in the poor house.

Seriously though, those are some great pics.

Chris is the man.  He is just super busy.  The other options are good also.  I believe Razor Emporium is doing their plating in house now, so turn around is shorter.

Is rhodium a lot more wear resistant than nickel?

I'm sending my Ikon SBS to Chris next month for either Rodium or Nickle finish.

I've used both Chris/Razorplate and Razor Emporium. Both razors came out beautifully. Chris' communication was waaaay better. They both took a long time - Chris had my razor for about 4-5 weeks, RE had my razor for about 8 weeks. If I do another razor, the nod goes to Chris. He's a perfectionist and a real gentleman.

The only place I considered was Krona Kruisers because everyone else had very high prices. Not worth it when you can buy a mint razor for the price of the replate (consider the wait too) plus the price of the dingy razor. They have not been active for a long time now but they did have positive reviews when open.

See this page (be sure to scroll down) for a breakdown of the different properties of different metals used for razors:
