I have one of the original Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetics and really enjoy it.  Sure its a little stiff and needs some pressure to splay but I'm fine with that.  DOes anyone have one of the newer models with the higher loft and one of the originals who can compare the two?

Yes I have the first release like yours and I recently purchased 2 more but this time I asked Mark to pick 2 out with as close to 54MM as he could. Thats just what he did! I like the short first release but I LOVE the new one

I have the original, and -- like you -- would be very interested in hearing about the newer model.   I find the brush acceptable, but not terrific.  It does not lather up particularly well, but its feel on the face is very pleasant.   My own sense was -- and remains -- that it would be a better brush with a fully fan-shaped knot, and perhaps a bit more loft.

If i might ask, is the only "generational" difference in the Chubby 2 Synthetics in the loft?  Or is it another type of synthetic, if you know.  Thanks

It's both a different type of synthetic and loft difference. They tried 3 types of synthetics, the first round of chubbies, a release of a I think a dozen classic 1 and the current chubby/classic synth.

I believe this is incorrect. Mark stated that they have their own source for the synthetic fibres.

Both here, the colors are different, and under a loupe the Simpson's seems to my eye to have a little more "crinkle" of the individual fibers.  The Simpson's is quite a bit denser than the Muhle, despite being of similar loft (≈ 53 mm) and prices, though the Muhle does come in considerably pricier in a similar loft (26mm Muhle v 27 mm Chubby).   I don't know which will eventually prove better, but based on what I've seen the knot fibers are "not" the same ..
