Yesterday I found a Gillette "fat boy" at a flea market. It has no date code on it. It is gold in color and looks like new. The seller was asking $10.00 but he let me have it for $9.00.

Can anyone tell me how to date a razor like this which does not have a date code on it.

And I am curious: Is it really gold plated...with real gold? Or is it just a "gold tone" like some of the cheap watches you can get on eBay.

Thanks for your help.
Paul

I've never heard of a Fatboy without a date code, maybe it's dirty or the date code just got rubbed off? For 9 bucks if it works it's a steal.

I think it's called the "fat boy".  It has a wide handle, three piece razor.  And I just double/triple checked:  No date code.  On the back just: REG US.    PAT OFF.  on the top, and on the bottom:  GILLETTE LOGO.   MADE IN USA.

What about my question about the "gold"?

+1 to that. My Gillette Executive has a date code of E4 stamped on the bottom plate near the handle below the made in USA and Gillette triangle stamps.

If ita a 3 piece it's not a Fatboy. As far as the gold it was an option for the razor that cost a little more at the time.

Without pictures though it's really pointless,if you can't post pictures then go to Google type in vintage gold gillettes then hit images and look until you see your razor if you can't find the name of it post it here and we will help you out.

Yes, that is probably what it is.  It is gold, tech, fat handle.  I guess I used the wrong term when I called it a "fat boy".

Any idea on how to get the date...or an approximate date?

And I still haven't gotten an answer:  Is it really "gold plated"?

Are you wanting to flip the razor and just gauging to see a good asking price? Not being rude it just comes across as what you may be doing.

The GOLD you refer to is very very thin and of no value....most likely copper underneath..occasionaly brass....for $9.00 enjoy using it but you won,t make much more than $10 to $15 "profit"
