I've tried 4 Shavemac's so far, and I wouldn't call them overrated. The brushes have all been of very high quality, even though I sold more than I kept, each for different reasons. (Note I have sold many brushes from many vendors..) I do agree that their value does not hold up on the BST, unfortunately. But as mentioned, is due to their easy accessibility. If Bernd were to decide to take down the configurator and shift to a waiting list for custom brushes, the exclusivity would lead to increased value retention. I'm glad he provides this valuable customization service.

Brush 1 - Finest grade - Too much scritch, due to the Pure grade hairs mixed in. Sold.
Brush 2 - D01 2-band - Was extremely soft with no scrub, unlike all the descriptions I had read online. Must have been an outlier. Sold, because the tips didn't seem to have enough character or feel. I will have to try another of this grade one day.
Brush 3 - D01 3-band - Love the knot, since I enjoy scrub.  But, sold since I did not like the look of the handle.
Brush 4 - 2-band Silvertip - Fantastic, a keeper. There was a lot of hype around this knot before I purchased it, so I was hopeful, but with skepticism. It's construction, feel and performance justified the hype, IMO.
and..
Brush 5 - D01 3-band - On order. I wanted the same scrubby feel that I had with my previous D01 3-band, but in the newer #82 handle. I have a high confidence this will be a great addition. Talking about overrated, I'd say the D01 3-band is underrated, but that is just me  Biggrin

I only had good experience with Bernd's knots, regardless of regular silvertip or the more recent 2 Band silvertip. The latter came relatively late to market as preferences moved to a softer 2 Band feel. His D01 2 Band has very dedicated followers but was a bit rough for many (myself included).

His knot construction is top notch and he allows to customize handles and knots in many different ways, making his brushes a favorite for many. He has also regularly updated his line-up to keep it fresh.

Personally, I find his 3 Band silvertips his best offering though I do own a few 2 Band silvertips as well.

Always comes down to personal preference.

Certainly would not call him "overrated".

Agreed.

I like honesty and value opinions regardless, but the comment made by Cricket/Mustafa is borderlining disrespectfull.

To each his own......

I have had my rage against the man behind M&F brushes, so I will stay away from commenting further........

You aren't going to find much support if you are dissenting in a vendor appreciation thread.

I subscribed to this thread because I like Shavemac. I just ignore the appreciation threads for vendors that don't appeal to me.

Beautiful brushes! Love the shape of your Nishy handle. The purple looks very similar to a Sumo.

I have Nishy's brush with a flat top knot.  wonderful great flow enough backbone and stunning to look at.  an odd duck at first but it pulls itself together in the end.  have about 6-8 shavemacs and enjoy every one.  Bernd and his company area big asset to this community.

I prefer a small brush, but that knot is outstanding!

This isn't the full extent of my collection of Shavemac brushes, but a realization hit me tonight upon the arrival of the Americana XL I purchased recently in the forum. I recognized in the sale post I've been gravitating towards larger brushes lately, but it more than just that. I've done a lot of purchasing for big Shavemac brushes!

I'm operating off fuzzy memory for some of the brushes, but the King Kong Shavemac Americana XL measures in at a 36.5mm knot in 2-band Silvertip, a 33mm 2005 Pre-D01 2-band, a 30mm Silvertip, a 28mm 2-band Silvertip, and a 28mm 3-band D01 brush. I have a few others like a 26mm 2-band D01 Fan I absolutely love, and a bulb 24mm 2-band D01 that I couldn't fit in. A bit too tired to post other photos, but couldn't help but post a picture of my newest large Shavemac! It is one spectacular brush! Can't wait to use it!  Love

I've decided I need to add some large brushes in pure, finest, and 2-band D01 to these big boys in the future! Another funny aspect of this lot of big boys is that they are all used. In fact, all my current Shavemac brushes but one were purchased used! lol

The jade is really nice. How's the handle react to wet hands. Is it slick?
