Sometimes I am in a hurry and do not have time for a three or four pass shave. Of the DE razors you have used, which one gives the closest one or two pass shave?

For me, it is the Merkur Vision. Yes, the Vision is huge and yes, you have to be careful under the nose. That said, no razor has given me as close of a shave after one or two passes...not even the Cobra Classic.

Which DE razor gives you the best one or two pass shave?

A week ago I'd have said it was the Mariner, but now that's been supplanted by a vintage razor that I'll be revealing next week. Amazing shaver!

Still, for a two-pass shave, I'd go with a straight any day.

For me its the Futur, Fatip and the Progress. There are others but these do the best job. I did have a Vision and it does shave very close if the setting is on "O" or "N"

The 37g slant has been able to give me a very close and comfortable 2 pass shave.

A vintage L'essor OC. Currently my favorite razor for performance. Not particularly attractive, but boy can she shave.

My best or closest (and scariest) quick shave would probably be with the R41. My Mergress also does good if set on a high number. Both, with a good blade, of course.

It would have to be the R41. There are number of others that give an almost equally close shave though. But the R41 takes an extra layer of skin cells.

I only ever do two passes... I'd say a slant.

from what I have so far...

I would venture to say a modern adjustable with a blade sharp enough for the user's hair type (coarse/fine, heavy/light growth)

The Progress could easily do a 2-pass very DFS

I am sure the VISION and FUTUR can do the same.

any vintage adjustables that could do it?
maybe an adjustable SS?

My 1st pick is obvious, so I'll pick 2nd place and say the Futur. I'd like to try a Vision, but it's rather expensive and really ugly.

Well, yes there are plenty of vintage razors that will do it, but the question was closest.

Personnally, since I took the Tech and SSs out of my cabinet any of the razors still in it will give a 2 1/3 pass BBS (happens everyday), but just a few shave close enough to give me sheets of dead skin cells in the sink.

Yes a vintage Slim or Fatboy set to magical 9 will easily give a 2 1/3 pass BBS (for me). You need to know your face map though, your face my require more passes, or fewer.

I agree with Brian about how some people's growth pattern will dictate the necessary minimum # of passes to achieve BBS. I can get a DFS with 2 passes, but typically a 3rd is needed for true BBS. Less efficient razors will need a 4th pass for me.

+1. Mapping is crucial.

Almost any razor, in spec, will give me a DFS on two passes. I shave everyday though. With multi-day growth it helps, for me, to have a razor with a larger gap. Clogs less between rinses I assume.

I can't speak on behalf of DE razors, but I do a two pass shave everyday with one of my Schick Injectors and they are always almost BBS.

I do seem to remember getting the same type of shaves from an old Gillette New open comb I use to have years ago.
