Well, I finally did it! Ever since I saw this photo nearly three years ago these brushes have been on my radar. Morris & Forndran labeled handles with Rooney Finest knots.  To my knowledge these were some of the last brushes to be filled with real Finest hair.  They were sold by Classic Shaving in late August of 2012.   Our good friend Claus discovered the sale and posted some information on the brushes on B&B.

I have been fortunate enough to achieve my goal of collecting all three of the Stubby brushes pictured in the above photo.  There weren't very many of them made, I know personally of the location of 2 of each size, however there may be a few more in circulation.  I was fortunate enough at one point to have two of the medium size, but had to trade one to acquire the Stubby small.  They are incredibly unique and beautiful brushes that I thought I'd share with you.  They deserve to be immortalized.  My gratitude to the gentleman who allowed me the opportunity to acquire these special brushes! I absolutely love them!

So glad you were able to complete the set! I briefly had possession of the Stubby medium in 2014, and it was by far the most dense knot I had ever experienced. But somehow still had great lather release! Seriously unique and amazing knot. I am glad these brushes have a good caretaker!

Beautiful brushes and an interesting story behind them! I'm a fan of Rooney and M&F but could someone please explain to me why the Rooney "finest" of this vintage are so sought after? What qualities do they have? These Stubbies look like they would have good backbone and definitely would interest me but most of the Rooney finests I see in SOTD's are fairly small diameter knots with high lofts and seem like they would be quite floppy to me.

Congratulations, Nathan -- a terrific collection.

I have only one of these brushes, the Stubby Large.   And -- like the collection of these (although your photo doesn't show the reverse side) -- the M&F is marked Blonde Badger, but it is clearly Rooney Finest.  It is an extraordinary brush, and I do use it (with great pleasure).   Never had my hands on the other sizes!

Use them all in good health (and soft water!).

Stanley
