I found this in a lot bid at an auction.  On the back of the baseplate it reads:  Razor Guard Razor, Chicago USA, Patented May 7 1929.  I shaved with it once, but I like aggressive razors and this one's way mild.  Anyway I'd never seen one like it before.  So here are some pictures of it.

Interesting Donald. The safety bar looks like an auger or screw. Does it rotate?

Yes, it certainly does rotate, like an auger on it's side.  The baseplate was marketed separately, as I understand, to be used with a Gillette Old Type topcap and handle.  This one is gold plated; they also came in silver.

I have a silver one. Wasn't so impressed with the shave -- I believe it was a 20's marketing gimmick Smile

I wasn't impressed with the shave either.  I put 2 shims under the blade and got an acceptable result, but then again I like aggressive razors.  I can see how someone who likes Feather Razors might like this fine, but if someone wants to trade me an unblemished 2011 Muhle R41 for it, it's gone.
