It's basically pronounced the way it's spelled. Pro-ross-so.

Incorrect. It's pro-ra-zo like others have said.
I want to scream when I hear people say pro-rasso.

I want to scream when I hear people say pro-rasso.

Why is the OP's soundclip incorrect, then? Wrong dialect of Italian?

I can only wonder what you'd do if you heard them say pro-ray-so. Smile

I didn't listen to the clip because I don't need to hahaha… sorry, not trying to be contentious.  Just that mispronouncing Italian is a major pet peeve of mine.

You're both wrong. It's a sibilant Z, kind of midway between an S and a Z. Pro-ra-(s)zo. Of course, that's 'standard italian'. There are quite a few dialects of italian and they all sound very different.

I believe in you! You can do the thing!

I almost mentioned that but didn't want to confuse it. A native English speaker would identify the sound much more to a Z than to an S.

True. Even the IPA for Italian gives it's pronunciation as z in zipper. But I've never actually heard a native speaker pronounce it with such a hard z sound.

I believe in you! You can do the thing!
