Because I have a hard time saying no to cheap razors when I come across them...in a span of a couple of days I now have 3 SE's.
I only use vintage DE's, but I have never tried a single edge razor.
Should have some blades in the mail box tomorrow, so which of the following razors should I try first?
Ever-Ready 1912, GEM OC MicroMatic, or the GEM safety bar, bullet tip MicroMatic?
Let the fun begin
Thx

I think I would recommend trying the 1912 or Bullet Tip first, then the other of those two, followed finally by the open comb. That way you can get a feel for SE shaving with the milder ones first before moving to the more aggressive MMOC. And I second the suggestion to try both carbon and stainless blades.

Thanks guys...sounds like the 1912 should be the mildest to try first, would hate to peel a strip off my face and turning myself off of SE shaving for the rest of my life
As far as blades go, I still have to source out a supplier of SE blades. For now, a nice member at B&B sent me a supply of his (part of the bulk buy at B&B)
Any advise would be appreciated
Thx
Kevin

I never shaved with an ER 1912. Typically a GEM 1912 can range anywhere from fairly mild (Damaskeene) to fairly aggressive (unmarked 1912) with a Jr in between. As I wrote I don't know about the ER '12 never having used one.
The bullet tip is definitely milder than the OCMM though.
I would expect any of those 3 to be more aggressive than the razors you currently favor.
Tips? Very light pressure, maybe more so than ever before, and build a great cushiony lather. They are capable of being really great razors.
Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

I thought I would follow up to my original post.
Went camping for a few days, returned today with a 4 day growth, decided to try an SE shave since I received my GEM stainless blades earlier in the week.
Loaded up the Ever-Ready 1912 and gave it a try tonight.
Experimented quite a bit with blade angle, but everything went quite well. Did 3 passes and ended up with a nice smooth face.
It will take a few more times to feel really comfortable with an SE.
I will continue to use the ER 1912 for a while before I try either of the MicroMatics.

Very nice. Do yourself a favor, try the 1912 with a carbon blade, it becomes a very different shave. YMMV, but that is what sold me on the 1912 over all others.
