I didn't know Connaught offered the wooden bowls and I think it's a good option but I do prefer the heavy glass MT jars. I think I might just take the puck out and load with it in my hand for shaving before putting it back in the jar for storage.

nudge, what I do in situations where the puck doesn't fit my container is grate the puck into my container of choice.  Press down the gratings very firmly into the new container and you're good to go.  Any kind of shaving soap tolerated grating well; no effect on the lathering.

Just an idea.  Having a puck that doesn't fit right is more than just a minor annoyance.  It makes properly loading and lathering the soap much more difficult that it should be and may ultimately affect the quality of the shave because of that.

You raise a good point and the ill fitting puck does make loading the brush a bit of a pain. So far I haven't had any difficulty with the lather, though I will consider grating the puck and pressing it into the jar if it starts to affect the quality of my shaves.

Grating the puck works really well.  It really helped the lather I was able to generate from MT.

I do not think grating is necessary. I simply pressed the soap firmly down with my fingers until the gap between glass jar and soap had closed.

You do not have to be Arnold Schwarzenegger for that, it will take only a few minutes.

True. Whichever method you use, grating or pressing, getting that gap gone helps in my opinion, and not just with MT, but with any soap that doesn't quite fit the container.

wow what a thread.  bought some mt from a nooker and liked it a lot.  now have ordered more.  sampled the Rhoussal sp?  and found the scent just outstanding.  Wife stole the lavender deluxe damn.  not much talk of the a/s balm but it is top notch also. Anything that creates this much discussion and allows me to buy from Gifts and Care certainly makes my day.   water wisperer ha ha ha   read a thread where Celestino was a newbie back in early 2012 now a Zen Master to me

You might have bought a little too soon. Straight Razor Designs will start carrying the further improved soaps, new scents, and other stuff shortly. And yes, the soaps just got even better. And the Gentle Woods is the most intricate wood scent I know, dry and subdued, very classy.

Dave, you must have me confused with someone else, my friend, as I still don't know much about anything. Biggrin

I recently purchased a puck of the Strong'N Scottish in a black wooden bowl. It smells like a true smoky single malt and lathers absolutely fine. I use the Merkur men's lathering method and this soap is a delight to use. Though very smelly delight Wink

Robin, can you share with us what has been changed in the latest formulation? Thanks

Somehow this forum has forgotten these fine products, which imo is a pity.
Robin, are you still here?
