After trying many different modern and vintage razors, I finally settled on the Feather AS-D2 as my only razor because of the close, very smooth shaves it gives me with great vintage blades like Wilkinson Light Brigades.  My only complaint was that it was kind of boring, both to look and to hold.  So I decided to jazz it up a bit, mainly by adding new handles.  Jay at Delta Echo coated several handles (and a spare razor head) for me, and Toby at Triad created some new handles, bead blasting some of the bright stainless steel parts so that the handles complement the satin Feather head nicely.  Here they are, with the heads, from L to R: stock, 'Stealth,' Bulldog, Bamboo, 'Grooves,' 'Electric Blue,' Aristocrat, Highland Green, and 'Techno.'

And here, briefly, are the various handle-head combinations.  A bonus is that each handle has its own unique feel in my hand.

makes me wonder if I am missing out by not trying AS-D2.
always thought it would be way too mild after hearing that it's even milder than att m1.

Nice collection ! Beautiful.

I had the same thought a couple of weeks ago, and scratched that itch The Usual Way (<< reference to Catherine Deneuve’s memorable line in Umbrellas of Cherbourg).

I have confirmed that an AS-D2 can be transformed to decidedly not-mild by substituting an iKon Open Comb baseplate for the stock Feather baseplate.

Lovely set - I particularly like the military-industrial look of the green knurled spiral matched to the black head Smile

Very nice collection of handles.  It's nice to know you're always going to get the same quality shave with the Feather but feel like you're shaving with a different razor every day.

Thanks, guys.  Both Toby and Jay were true gentlemen to work with, very willing to listen to my ideas, to offer suggestions, and to explain technical difficulties and possibilities.

That's a beautiful collection of handles. I'd better not show them to my AS-D2. It would be jealous. I do have one alternate handle for mine, a Maggard MR5, which gives it a little more heft and a very different, but natural feel in my hand. I find that the extra weight lets the razor do all the work. (I'm trying to figure out how to attach a photo of it - newbie here - finally figured it out a couple of posts down).

Except for the baseplate, your AS-D2 with the Maggard MR5 handle probably looks a lot like the AS-D2 in this post.   Biggrin

Awesome collection of handles for your AS-D2, and I love the black version of the AS-D2 as well!
