Hello gents.
I want to try a Simpsons brush but the dilemma is whether I should go for the Chubby 2 or Chubby 3 in super bather for face lathering?
According to information found online the Chubby 2 has ~29mm knot with ~50 mm loft while the Chubby 3 has ~31mm knot with ~57mm loft.
Does the larger loft of Chubby 3 make it less suitable for face lathering?

How does the backbone of Cubby 2 or 3 compare to Taher 4125 30mm knot, or a 30mm Shavemac Silvertip two band?

Thank you in advance

Stefan, I would go with the Chubby 2 Super as I found the Chubby 3 a bit too large, unless you are a bigger/taller individual.
The two Chubby 2 Super knots that I have are 52-53mm lofts.
Both of my knot have excellent backbone, in my opinion as they are extremely dense knots; the densest one that I have.
Granted, their backbone might not be as strong as some of my other two band knots, but they are still excellent.

Even though I prefer 2-Band knots with strong backbone, I really do enjoy using these knots along with my others.

If you are asking if you should get with the Shavemac Silvertip 2-Band 30mm or one of the Chubby Supers, then I would say to get both as they are such different knots. Smile

Good luck.

Thanks Celestino. I agree on your point about the Shavemac knot, I am having one installed in a Wolf Wiskers brush.

Celestino got me hooked on to the Shavemac 2-Band Silvertip knot, and I'm ready to install my fourth one as soon as my Doug Korn handle arrives. My own preference has been for a 28mm fan with a 52mm loft. I find the Chubby 2 Manchurian knots to be too dense and too stiff for my liking, which is a shame as they are so beautifully made. I haven't tried a Chubby 2 Super, which would probably be more to my liking. I also enjoy Thäter 2-bands, but I like being able to custom order knots from Shavemac. Stefan, please post a photo of the Wolf Whiskers Shavemac once you receive it.

The Chubby 2 is an ideal face lather brush, regardless of hair type.
I would go with the CH2. The 2 is more popular than the 3, so it is likely you will like it. If you find you would still like a 3 you would have no trouble selling the 2.

Great points Celistino.

Richard,
I will post pics for sure. I am also having him install a Romera knot  in a second handle.

So far the opinion is for the Chubby 2, I think I'll indulge.

Thanks guys.

I own both, 1 CH3 Manchurian and 4 CH2's in all the hair you can get them in.

The CH3 definitely takes a larger sized face and hands to enjoy it IMHO

My ideal handle size would be a CH 2 1/2.

The CH2 is a tada small for me, the CH3 could be taller IMHO, but also a bit thinner.

I would go for the CH2 first.

Thanks Claus, I did just order a Cubby 2 and will go from there.

My vote is for the 2. I actually love the 1 for face lathering. The 2 is a great all around, classic brush.

The Chubby 2 is outstanding in each and every variation; always a good choice.  I actually find the CH2 best to be the best deal, and its overall feel and performance are outstanding.  Super is softer, and it tends to hold more water and for a longer time.  Manchurian is in a category by itself, but you pay the price for its excellence in feel and look.

Size comparison below - 2 Band.
Personally? I find Ch 1 too small, Ch 3 too large for daily use and Ch 2 just right...
