I have a container of Gillette Blue Blades that I got with a 1957 Gillette Aristocrat. I tried one and found it very dull. Were they always that way, or has age dulled them?

i have also shaved with a blue blade - don't remember its age, but perhaps from the 30s - and found it harsh and dull. a terrible blade. i do think age must have done something to them Huh

Age will degrade any metal, but carbon quicker and more than stainless steel. However, if you get a quality make in an unbroken, sealed package, you'd find they can shave great. Believe me, if what most experience today was how they originally were, most men back then would've been sporting beards instead of the clean shaven look. I regularly shave with Thins, Blues, Super Blues, and Schick Deluxe Kronas a.k.a. "Black Beauties".
