I think that we live in an incredible renaissance of wet shaving. In my opinion, the top razors being made today easily match the razors our grandfathers used, at the very least.

I was also going to comment on what a class act Wolfman Razors is, saying nice things about the "competition." But then it occurred to me that this isn't really the competition, since James knows full well that we're all helpless to keep from buying all of them. Biggrin

If someone really wants to make serious money find a way to grow beard hair faster so that we can shave 2 or even 3 times a day....then we could justify our purchases to SYMBO because of our "condition" and even get supplies under our medical plans.......That would justify everything and then we would all be considered "NORMAL"....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah... Thanks, James! Awesome compliment from the master.

And thanks to everybody else for the kind words and well wishes. It's been somewhere around 18 months since I started this journey and I am thrilled to be only about a month away from shipping these out.

Looks interesting! My concern is the choice of handle lengths. Both options are at the extremes. The short handle is about the shortest handle you can buy (only a tiny bit longer than the ikon Tuckaway). The long handle is the same length as an ATT Colossus. Both of these options are well outside my comfort zone. I would have preferred a nice medium length, like 85mm.

Great write up Chamm.

Enjoyed reading your post!

I have some of the razors you mentioned in your rotation and now I'm really intrigued!

Looking forward to it Shane.  It has been cool been involved in it from the start and I can't wait for the final product.

That's fair. When I started designing the razor, I did so without having any intention to produce it and offer it for sale. It began as just practice for me to learn CAD. Because of that, for better or worse, all of the design decisions were made to suit my personal preference.

I often find myself gripping a razor right up by the head and so I created the 70mm handle to get the extra bulk out of the way. The 101mm handle is exactly the opposite. It's a lot of handle to allow for adjustments in balance and control.

It's highly likely that an 80-90mm handle will be offered in the future. Currently, it's financially unfeasible for me to offer three handles in two finishes, but it's something I'll be looking into for future runs.

Thanks again for hanging in from the start! It's been a pretty long road, but we're nearly there. Smile

That's awesome Congratulations! I do have a question though, do the finishes make a difference in the shave? Like does one glide smoother than the other or both are identical and just cosmetic?

Thanks! There is no difference between the shaves offered by each finish, at least none that I can detect. The black oxide finish is unlike a coating. It is a chemical conversion process that converts the surface molecules of the stainless steel into black oxide. The result is that the black oxide version has the exact same dimensions, texture, feel, and "slipperyness" as the bare stainless. Both razors are also passivated to help prevent corrosion.

I also wanted to update everyone on where I am in the process. A few days ago I received the first base plate from the machinists to confirm that it meets my standards before greenlighting the run. I am absolutely blown away by the machined finish on this part. It far exceeds the previous samples I had obtained(and the one Craig used). Craig posted a photo in his review of the new parts, but I wanted to show it more clearly with a couple photos.

This photo shows the consistency of the machining marks, especially above the center hole.

This photo shows the new base plate(left) alongside the old. The difference between the two is most obvious around the combs and on the body of the plate. The tight, consistent checkered pattern is miles better than the old, sort of messy machine marks.

None of these marks will be removed. I wanted a razor that shows off it's machining marks, including imperfections. I know that's not for everyone, but I love seeing the evidence of each part's creation. And with machining marks as beautiful as these, it would be a crime to remove to them.

The base plates will finish up this week with the top caps coming up next and then the handles last.

I love milling marks on stainless steel parts, I think it gives the piece character and I think it goes with the aviation theme of the razor.  I like it Smile

That looks great! I definitely have a weakness for all the beautifully machined razors that have been coming out lately.

There really are a ton of awesome razors out there right now! It's a great time to be a wet shaver.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad to be here! This first run is 250 razors and there are about 80 remaining.
