I have a bunch of high end brushes. Plissons, Simpsons, Kent and Saville row. I am fairly much a bowl latherer. I prefer soft tips and mild back bone.I do not know much about Wiborg brushes. I have been offered a Wilborg Knight handle 28mm  White Badger in a Briar handle. My question is given my likes and need should I get the brush or let it pass? I do not know anyone who has personal experience with Wiborgs any input would be appreciated.

Hey Barry,

I have in my possession a Wiborg Sturdy in White badger. Don't have exact measurements but its around 29-30 mm x 55 mm or so. Very soft tips but no backbone to speak of. Mine does not exhibit glue bump which does not help the backbone. Still with all that it is one of my favorite brushes as it just adds to the variety in my den, as the other two band brushes I do have, do have nice backbone. Hope this helps.

Mustafa you have always given me good advice. If I don't buy this brush I am only going to waste my money on food rent or medication. It's a matter of priorities. Looks like I am going to have to buy it.

Yes I wrote him before the 20% sale at Plisson. Before he responded I bought 2 Plissons and sold one. I was starting to think he would never respond and I refused to chase him.

I sent him an email a while back and he never responded. I'd have bought one of his brushes if he had responded, but I'm not a fan of these manufacturers who don't seem to make the time to write back.

That's exactly how I felt. I refused to chase him too. It took him 3 plus weeks to respond. I am still more than a little put off by his behavior

Florian responded me to all emails.

A week ago I ordered "Marshal" 26*52 bulb White Badger.
Now to wait for 12 weeks.

Definitely!  I have 3 Wiborgs that are at or near the best of my brushes (which include Simpsons, Thater, M&F, Paladin.....).

Can anyone speak to how the White Badger and Simpson SiLVERTiP hair compare?

There was a 20% sale at Plisson I missed? Sad
I would have spent my Wiborg money on that lol. But I do like the look and quality of the Wiborg brushes. If manufacturers like Wiborg and M&F figure out how to respond to everyone in a timely fashion, I'd give them a lot more business.

I also waited about three weeks for a response, but after that emails were answered promptly. I think that he has a pretty big backlog of orders, hence the twelve week wait for a brush.
Ended up ordering "The Barber" 24x48 bulb shaped white badger faux horn.

Mr. Florian, like any good craftsman has a long waiting list, the secret to having one of these brushes is to have patience. All this waiting time will be rewarded with excellent work.

Lorenzo.

Oddly I wouldn't mind waiting for a brush to be made - what bothers me is a lack of communication. If I can get ahold of the man I'd love to have a brush made. "The Barber" specifications seem to be right up my alley.

I am a HUGE fan of Wiborg...personally, I think they one of the best kept secrets on our little world of traditional shaving  Wink

The closest hair to it (IMO) is Simpson 2 band Silvertip, however Wiborg has a little less backbone depending on the specific knot.

It's probably a given at this point that I will strongly recommend that you give it a shot. Perhaps disclose to Florian that you primarily bowl lather and see if he recommends a slightly higher loft (probably not). Best of luck and keep us posted  Biggrin

I'm definitely saving for a Wiborg and a Paladin next year. In the case of Wiborg I'm still trying to decide what knot dimensions will give me enough backbone to not be floppy yet still give the super softness I've heard Florian's knots have.

Yes I need a new brush like I need a third armpit. It's the Wiborg that intrigues me. I have heard little or none about them and know no one who owns one.

Love my Wiborg White with the Flagon handle. It's one of my favorite brushes that I really think I will never sell.

Feather soft tips, plenty of backbone, lots of density yet great flow through. Love it, love it, love it. Makes me smile every time I use it... Smile

I have a Briar Jewel 28mm White Badger bulb on order that should be ready later this month.
