I've seen posts in which guys mention stropping their SE or DE blades, sometimes on their jeans. Please enlighten me about the techniques and materials used for this stropping. I'd like to try it (just for razor blades - I don't use straight razors). TIA.

I tried it once. I would just remove it from my razor every 2 or 3 shaves, and run both sides of both edges against my pant leg five or six times at a very slight angle. The blade lasted about two weeks. Otherwise, they last about 5 days. It didn't give me a like-new edge, but it was definitely workable.

I wouldn't do this with DE blades. Too much chance of problems.

However, I do palm-strop my SE blades and it seems to keep them going for 15-20 uses. Note, I don't do a 3-pass shave every time. Sometimes the SE razor is only used for touch-ups.

Edit: To palm strop an SE blade, hold it in your dominant hand by the 'spine' - in between your index finger and thumb and then quickly strop over your off-hand palm, flipping it over each time.

DE blade stropping is easier and safer than it seems.

I have stropped the last few DE blades I've used. As long as you are careful and do it just like the video it is a pretty easy and safe process.

Then there is stropping on old blue jeans with the blade in the DE razor.

what about the stropping DE blade in a crystal/ceramic cup (normal cylinder shape)?

I know some old-timers used to do it... but I've never seen it demonstrated

Anyone here have an example (pic) or detail instructions on how to do it with a cup/mug?
