I have been enjoying using after shave balms these days and thought it would be interesting to hear what balms everyone else enjoys using.  My favorite balms are:
  1. AdP Collezione Barbiere after shave lotion
  2. Santa Maria Novella Emulsione Analcolica
  3. Baxter of California after shave balm
I think the primary thing I enjoy about these balms is the fact that they are light, and do not leave an oily/greasy feeling behind after use.
Which balms are you favorites?

My favorite was always the original ProRaso cream balm, but it was discontinued (bad chemicals).  I still have one bottle of it for special occasions.

These days, my preference is ProRaso with Aloe, the black label after shave balm.  No alcohol, pleasant aroma, and very soothing.

I have heard great things about SdP balm- love Paolo's soaps!

I don't use balms often but have a couple from Soap Commander that are very nice.

Aveeno (the regular general moistirizer) mixed with whatever cologne I reach for. It is not oily and I have yet to find a  balm that worked better for me.

The latter is often overlooked, but these two (not in any order) are definitely by far and away the best I've ever tried:

Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere & scented versions
Antica Barbieria Colla Apricot Hull

I like using the ADP balms as a daily aftershave since they are so comfortable and provide great skincare results, but when I want something heavier and/or something that really calms the skin after a rough shave, there is absolutely nothing better than ABC Apricot Hull.

In no particular order:

Village Barber Balm
iColoniali Mango Balm
iColoniali Rhubarb Balm
Alvarez Gomez Agua Colonia Balm
Pre de Provence #63 Balm
D.R. Harris After Shave Milk
Proraso Green Balm

I guess my favorite of the above at this time is, the Alvarez Gomez.

The dry fall weather has me reaching for The Gentlemens Refinery unscented. Its more of a milk. Definitely not greasy.

I've been enjoying it.

In this order:

  1. Meißner Tremonia Gentle Menthol: cooling, soothing, nourishing, and a mild anaesthetic.
  2. Esbjerg Various: Milk, gel, balm, these products range from lightly cooling to heavily nourishing. Like Meißner Tremonia, strictly controlled organic ingredients. Very lightly scented.
  3. Baume.be. Very nourishing, beat only by Meißner Tremonia in the winter. Fougère line scent, and comes with a stunningly good shaving cream.
  4. Alvarez Goméz Barberia: Best complemented with their shaving cream, this balm is lightly nourishing.
  5. Castle Forbes Various: Used to be the best in the market, but currently fall behind because their price/performance ratio is a bit off. If money is not an issue, shaving cream and aftershave balm still make for one of the very best product lines around. The sandalwood scent is, well, not everyone's cup of tea, though.
  6. KNIZE Ten Aftershave Lotion: If you like the scent, get both the soap and the lotion. Performance wise, not quite up there with 1-3 above, but the scent is, in my opinion, to die for.
  7. Rancé Francois Charles Aftershave Spray: Yes, it is a bit pricey. But again, the scent is outstanding.
  8. Acca Kappa 1869 or White Musk: I have often wondered why these products are not more popular. Distinguished scents, stylish packaging - nice.
  9. ... well, I could go on for a little longer, but honestly, get one of the top five if you want outstanding performance. The rest are mostly in here for the scent.
  10. Honourable mentions: Everything made by Creightons and sold cheaply. The Real Shave Company, Groomed!, Truefitt & Hill - affordable, good, but in-your-face scents you have to really like.
