I love a balm that heals, seals, and takes the red away without being a tacky mess. I collect AS the way other guys collect soaps and brushes.

I have tried some weird stuff in the name of blade repair.

A favorite and most exotic is Susanne Kauffman AS. Light lavender typed scent in a refined milk. No sting. Perhaps it is heavy on the oil content, but I keep going back to it and repurchased 3x. Can’t think of anything that feels so luxerious.

Task. Very Thick. Simple. No scent. Heals, stops weepers and dries smooth and clean. Not tacky. Seals up better than anything I’ve used. Not oily. (I mix with speick splash)

Penhaligons wins for me in cologne scented category, both balm and gel.

There are so many good balms out there and I have used several of them.  I started using this one about 6 months ago and at this time, this is the only balm I use.  Only downfall, it is expensive.

I used Stirling Tea Tree balm this morning. Felt nice after the shave. But my neck is still feeling the shave 2 hours later. Not sure any balm can fix that though.

Get you some Speick Aftershave Lotion.  That will clear up irritation faster than anything I have ever used.  Plus it has a nice mild scent.

Not for nothing but...my shaving soaps are sooooo good I rarely need aftershave in summer. But bad habits never die...

Barrister & Mann & SGS stopped making these balms.
Winter: CRSW Cold River Soap Works Limenthol
Summer: see above & Al's Goodfellas

Myrsol Emulsion is my first choice.

While it doesn't have the "pure" ingredients that some low scale artisan balms have, it is just great.

I only use balms.
My top choices are:
For my skin, Spieck is the best, if I ever get a shave irritation I reach for it.
Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian lime great and my favorite scent.
Portus Cale is also excellent.

I tried a sample of antica varbieriac colla (green tobacco) and thought it was similar to Cela in performance (below average) with a scent that dissipated very quickly.

Eufros Balm is very light, non-greasy and absorbs quickly with just a touch of menthol and lightly scented.  Great ingredients and is perfect for spring and summer!

Another great one is Saponificio Varesino.
