Hi,
I would like to confirm that the head and the baseplate on the British Gillette that i'm holding are of 2 different version. The shave was quite aggressive (approaching R41). When i checked the head and baseplate it doesn't seem to sit flushed with each other which seems very different to pictures of techs on the net.

Comparing what i found on the net, it seemed i got #2 baseplate while the head should be #6 or #7 (note that there isn't 2 strips to guide the razor blade into the head.

Pictures comparison to a working gillette ball end tech. Note tha difference in blade gap exposure even with the poor quality photo.

Your assumption is correct... definitely the wrong cap.

Yes. But try switching caps between those two Techs. I know that is not what you wanted but might solve the issue.

The baseplate is  from an English Fat Handle tech. There are at least three variations of the English baseplate; the oval lather holes are slightly different sizes. There other one, other than the two in Mr Razor's pictures, come from one of the variations of the British Service Set.

Definitely a mis-match. I wouldn't try swapping.

The caps can't be switch. Instead of the two guideposts the golden one have a Long strip which make me unable to tighten the razor if I swap it around.

This does means I can continue hunting for another razor purchase though.

Ugh. I know how you feel. I can take some other Gillette's top cap. Good luck.
And more razors is not a bad thing.
