I have a Gillette old type I want to use, the ball end handle is in need of extensive repairs. I plan on using it with a travel tech handle as a franken milady decoletee razor.

the travel razor is a 1966 zamak top cap, steel base plate. I like it tremendously but have been wondering about an actual metal top plate for it.

for some reason I cant bring myself to pay the astronomical prices for one on ebay.. so im curious about the modern razors as far as compatability go.

I've got an Old Type head on a modern handle made by Pendragon right now. I've used the same handle with other heads from 3-piece razors (Merkur, R41, EJ89, IKon), so I think your Old Type head should work great with the other modern handles that are available today.

Does anyone make a brass handle that doesn't cost a fortune and would look nice on an Old Type?

The Matador Toro Mastiff comes in a 'gold' coating that would compliment your Old-Type fairly nicely and it is a solid and heavy handle made of brass and coated in chrome or gold.
You can find them at razorbladesandmore.
