I finally broke down and ordered St James of London Saturday and it arrived today (shipped from North Las Vegas and I live in Las Vegas). I opened it up anxious to shave with it and the pic below is how it looked. I just now returned it via UPS. I had read another review on Amazon about the same thing.

So you all would agree that it deserved to be sent back? I compared it to a youtube review from a guy that showed his jar and his was filled level just below the threads on the glass. I don't think this one would be near that if I scraped it all off the edge of the jar and smoothed it out. At any rate, Amazon is too easy so I just returned it.

Absolutely. I'd also send the vendor a photo. Also, if you do Twitter, light them up on Twitter at @StJamesOfLondon the worst they can do is ignore you.

Unless that is a trick of the camera, the jar looks like it is half-empty! Good luck with the resolution.

Am I the only one who disagrees? The empty space in the middle is due to the cream being diverted to the outer circumference of the jar, and piling up to the top. If you let it settle down flat, there would probably be as much cream as you are expecting to see.  Note, however, that underfilling is commonplace, because people like to be able to load a brush without making a mess. I don't know whether or not SJOL does it, though. In any case, the jar looks fine to me.

if the jar is genuine and not tampered with, the gross weight will be what the label says.

no offense but that looks like it got returned, and then resold to someone else. if it had leaked in shipping the whole box would have been soaped up.

No trick I promise. SJoL has been high on my list for some time, so I tried to talk myself into keeping it but even my wife said it needed to go back.

Obviously that is how it happened, but it still looks very light. If I would have kept it I would have weighed it outside of the jar, but when I saw a youtube review that held the jar new up to the camera and held it there for a few seconds I paused it and showed it to my family and everyone felt it was way less. I am aware of how creams can shift during shipping, and this isn't my first cream to do so, but it was by far the most shocking when I opened it. On top of that, the nice box it came in was torn, and there was no plastic seal on the jar, and the inside had a white paper type seal which was not secure. Since I don't know what to expect with SJoL packaging I sent it back because too many questions. Also, one other reviewer complained of the same thing on Amazon.

I bought a jar from Lee a couple of years ago that looked like this. Lee kindly sent out a replacement- the replacement looked normal.

Sjol appears whipped and I suspect in the heat it lost some of its aeration.  The first jar product was more dense.

Reminds me of the time I ordered a coffee grinder brush from Amazon.  It arrived in a padded envelope.  I remember thinking, wow this envelope is really light but the brush is small so no big deal.  But when I opened the envelope, I discovered that the retail packaging, i.e., the protective plastic front glued to a paper back so it could hang on a hook in a store, had split open before it was placed in the envelope and the brush was nowhere to be found.

Got a good laugh out of it.

Contacted Amazon and they sent a replacement.

To me, that cream looks like it had a major air hole in it as it was being put in the container.  Probably a quality control issue.  I definitely would have returned it.
