Just like the title says- how are you holding your brush?
I just hold my brush where the butt of the brush rests against the palm (specifically at the base of 2nd and 3rd digit) with my fingers wrapped around at the base of the hair where it inserts into the handle.

I have gotten rid of all of my Chubby 1's and 2's as I just couldn't get comfortable with the handles and have progressed to longer handles.
Nonetheless, when I was using them, I would principally hold the handle with my thumb, index and middle fingers wrapped around the brush with the base resting in my palm, in a way.
I have never held the knots of any brush as that just doesn't feel comfortable for me as I enjoy allowing the knot to do its work on my face.

I apologize, but I don't have any Chubby 3s in my collection. However, I have used a Chubby 3 in Best, Super and Manchurian and, while the handle is larger and a bit more comfortable than the Chubby 2, I still didn't like the feel of it in my hand. As I have said, previously, I much prefer a slimmer and longer handle. Like this:

If you're planning to stick with Simpsons I strongly prefer the Tulip handles to the Chubby. I would say my sweet spot is a Tulip 3 but I have never tried the T4.

For me the grip ring on the chubby is too short in height for me to use comfortable. Wish it was a little bit taller. Curious to see others thoughts on this.

l don't care for the Chubby 2 handle.  The 57, 58 are more comfortable IMHO.  THE reason I keep my CH2 is because it has a wonderful two band knot.  Were it Best or Super, it would have been turned loose long ago.

To answer the question of grip.  I hold it with my thumb, index and middle finger, same as most other brushes.  Using that grip just doesn't feel very comfortable, but I haven't found a good alternate.

C7, or a modified version of the m7. With custom handles, you can get any design that you want. Shy
