Quick question -- I've been looking at picking up a Hoshi Tombo 6000 or 8000 and am a bit confused as to the asymmetrical grinds I see on many of them -- are these to be shaved with like a traditional RH or LH kamisori?

Thanks!

Jason

They are not asymmetrical like Kamisoris  they are symmetrical and a quarter hollow grind with a 2in cutting edge, here's my Hoshi Tombo 8000 and my custom clone of my Hoshi Tombo made by Ali's blade Cedric Christ.

So what am I seeing where one side looks more flat than the other on a lot of these NOS Hoshis?

I've seen the razor you are talking about it's the 6000 with the Kamisori grind, but largely speaking the vast majority of the Hoshi Tombo's from the 6000 6500 8000 and 8500 are all symmetrical personally I wouldn't buy the Kamisori model, the 6000 6500 8000 and 8500 are not to difficult to get hold of in NOS but they are selling for over a $1000 on Tamahagane Honsha, having said that I would say that's massively overpriced.

Thanks Jamie! I am looking for the symmetrical one -- yes, I seem to miss the barely used ones that sell for a decent price -- but I find myself looking and searching a few times per day. Smile lol

Thanks for the advice!

The 6000 is asymmetric grind, the 6500, 8000, 8500 are all symmetric. The asymmetric grinds should be used like any other razor with angle adjustment on each side.

Here is my 8500
