Has anyone found that their DE shaves have improved after using a straight razor for a few weeks?

I'm only six months into my newbie year. I must admit I back slid from straights into mostly DE shaving.
I got an amazing deal on a Gillette Fatboy and I do like it. Either combined with better soaps and a scritchy boar brush face lathering are far better than canned goo and a Bic.

My DE shaves are always so much better than my straight razor shaves as I am terrible with the latter! Biggrin

Absolutely they did - and I think for two reasons: first, technique certainly.  Took maybe 3 - 4 shaves to get the DE process down but then after the first few weeks I started noticing another change - my skin was getting used to the closer shaves.  It was getting smoother and - for lack of a better word - tougher - in a good way.  I attribute it to proper pre-shave prepping, good shave cream, regularly exfoliating the dead skin, and good post-shave treatment with a quality balm.

i switched from straights to DE back in May of last year and have yet to mimic the consistency of the BBS I always got from each straight shave. Although I am still on the search for my perfect DE razor, so perhaps the time will come.

I took from cartridge shaving to DE shaving like a duck in water.  After a couple of years, I decided to take on straight shaving, assuming it would be just as easy.

Wrong.

I'm still working on it.  If I stuck with a straight, I'm sure I'd improve a lot faster but it's just too tempting to switch back to DE shaving after a couple days and enjoy those BBS shaves.

A straight razor drives home the light pressure, good prep and know your face. I even stretch my skin when DE shaving now. I also take a little more time with my DE then I used to. I will go a week or two with my straights and then rest my face with my Mongoose or Futur.

I started with straights almost two years ago but just recently, a couple months ago started with a de. Straight razor technique would be beneficial to every method of shaving.

I use straight, DE and SE razors. I get great, close shaves with all of them.
That said, anytime any of us find our shaves improving, that is great news! Congrats!
