I am looking for an application that, when I enter all of my brushes, razors, soaps and aftershaves, will randomly pick one of each? I think that might be fun. I use a macbook pro. Thanks for your suggestions.

Primo,

That's a good idea. I was thinking that something simple built on top of Microsoft Excel might work well for this.

I need to learn mobile programming so I can turn this into an app Biggrin.

It's not an App, but I just close my eyes and open a drawer (when it comes to selecting a brush)...   Tongue

Here are a couple of links to random allocation software for OSX:

Let me guess, you usually end up with a Simpson?  Biggrin

That's actually pretty easy to do in Excel.

Create a table like below.  Enter all your gear.  If you need to insert rows or columns that's ok.

In the bottom row (Today's Setup), the formula in the orange cell needs to be:

=INDEX(C5:C12,RANDBETWEEN(1,COUNTA(C5:C12)))  Where:

C5:C12 is the "Razors" data region (between the green header row and the orange result row).  Col E - E5:E12 is the "Creams/Soaps" region and so forth.

RANDBETWEEN and COUNTA are just standard Excel formulas:

COUNTA counts the entries you have entered in each column
RANDBETWEEN gives a result between 1 and however many entries you have (calculated by COUNTA)

NOTE: in the photo below, I listed each formula, but the rows are offset by 1 - my bad, so just ignore and follow the steps above

All you need to do is "trigger" the random function (RANDBETWEEN) - I'd do that with a simple line of macro code, but for the purposes of simplicity here I left that out.  Easiest way to do it is type something in a cell (say, A1) and hit "Enter" - that'll trigger the random function.

Holler if questions.  Smile

Yeah - a program would be simple enough to write.  Wasn't sure how in depth you wanted to take things so I kept it simple.  Did the above in about 10 minutes.  Smile

Naaah - given my job, I just spend a lot of time in Excel.  Smile

Then let me amend my post and say: "You're a better programmer than I". But I can program my DVR. Does that count?  Wink

Alcohol. I just crawl into the bathroom on all fours, sweep my hand over the countertop and use whatever falls onto the persian carpet first.

Absolutely - I might be able to do a little computer programming here and there, but when it comes to DVRs, phones, and worst of all -- my clock radio, I'm worthless.  Smile

I am not Ben but my guess is the same as everyone else around here: enough to satisfy the needs but still could get a few for good measure.
