Hello folks,
I recently fell upon this site by accident while researching my next razor. My significant other, who allegedly has a degree in engineering, decided to improve my Merkur Vision which, along with a Merkur Futur and 39C Barber Pole Slant Bar make up my daily shaving armoury. Anyhow, she snapped the butterfly stem leaving me to grumble about the wisdom of female engineers and airline pilots and justify faffing around for hours on the web in search of a new toy.
Although I am a comparatively old fart heading towards my sell-by date, I nevertheless have a light beard which seems to benefit from an aggressive razor. Thus, my hardware of choice has both heft and wide blade gap and the Vision, Futur and 39C fit the bill as arguably some of the most aggressive when it comes to follicle decapitation (except perhaps a Muhle R41).
However, it had been several decades since I last used an open comb so I decided to try an iKon Bulldog S3S. What have I been missing... a good lathering with lanolin shaving soap and one pass WTG and one pass ATG with a Feather blade and the result put the proverbial baby’s bum to shame.
Now, an iKon S3S is not known for it’s aggressiveness so if I can get such a great shave with the iKon head what could I achieve with a Fatip Grande???
Even better... using the FaTip in a Bulldog handle for the WTG pass and the S3S for ATG the shave is both amazingly close and comfortable. Can it get any better than this?
Well, winging its way to me courtesy of Bullgoose is a stainless steel OC Tradere and I intend to install the Tradere head in a Bulldog handle for WTG and the S3S in a similar handle for ATG. The FaTip head will go into the Tradere handle and become my travelling razor, replacing the 39C Slant Bar.
Yes, I have unfortunately been bitten by the OC bug so expect some more obsessive ramblings after I have had an opportunity to mix and match. In the meanwhile I have attached a snap of my bathroom shelf showing the iKon and FaTip heads resplendent in Bulldog handles.
Watch this space...
Jack

Yes, the OC route is not one that I would have envisaged for myself a few months ago, but now I'm on the prickly path I think I've made a sound choice Biggrin

Welcome Jack.

I have little experience with OC razors except I had a Gillette NEW Short Comb and I have a Gillette NEW Long Comb. I did not care for the short comb hence the "had", but I love the Long Comb and I'm looking for another as backup.

Enjoy your time here at the nook, this is the best bunch of folks you'll find anywhere.
